I know I am still pretty new here and no one really knows much about me....
long story short I am 33 years old and had been a stay at home mom for 14 years. My son is 14 and daughter is 5.

Eight months ago I decided to take the plung and go back to school in hopes of landing a job I would love in the end.

I am now ready to go out on fulltime co-op, I put my resume out there and now have two jobs that I am now 98% sure I will be offered by Friday.
Here is my delema, one job is full time and pays well with full health insurance, however, it would conflict with my daughters school hours BIG TIME. The other job is part time , pays less but "fits" my life time wise alot better.

Why is this so hard for me? I feel like if I dont take the better paying job I am not doing justice to what I could earn for our household, but I know I would be happier working part time.
WHAT WOULD YOU DO ????????

Kids are only young for a short amount of time, and all too quickly don't need us as much. Full-time jobs will always be waiting.

Part time for sure. Full time will be there when you are ready.
As you already know the "young" years go by so fast.

So as a SAHM myself what did you go back to school for??? I need to get a job myself.

I agree about taking the part-time job. Besides the fact that it will work better for your 5yo, it also sounds like it's a better match for you.

Taking the kids out of the equation for a second, which job appeals to you more? That's the one you should choose....good luck :thumbsup2

My vote is going to have to be for the PT one too. Life's too short.

Congrats on the jobs, BTW!

Wow! We think alike on 2 separate threads - spooky...... :teeth:

It sounds like the part-time job would work out better all around. No amount of money or benefits are going to make you happy if your heart is elsewhere! Oh, and congrats on the two job offers! :cheer2:

Thanks everyone!!!!!!!!!

The Mystery Machine: I am in a certificate 1050 hour program for Administrative Assistant. I know you would never know it by my typing and or spelling skills here ;)

I'd go for the part time if you think you'll like the job. I recently had my first baby at 33. I went back to work and reduced my hours to 30 per week so I can have more time with my son. I've kinda put my career on hold for now. My DS is only little once I want to cherish this time with him.

If it helps, I can tell you that I choose to go back to work this year and was offered a full time teaching job and a 1/2 time teaching job. I took the 1/2 time (teaching math and science enrichment) and I have been soooo happy this year. The part time is working perfectly with the rest of our family schedule. I don't feel completely overwhelmed trying to "do it all" and I think it has been a nice mix for our family. For me it is not about the money as much as it was about me needing to do something for myself. DH covers our expenses and insurance so I could choose to do the 1/2 time. I am a lucky girl! :teeth: To decide try to list all the pros and cons of both situation for you and for your family. The longest list wins. :goodvibes

If you can aford it I would go with the one you would be happier with for now. You can always switch careers when your dd is a little older. You will still be young enough in 10 years that you could be hired elsewhere. If the full time job has a good pension plan(most companies don't anymore) I might go for the one with a pension plan depending on how much it conflicts with you dd's schedule. Good luck.
