I personally thought we should tip the movers for Mayflower, but dear partner said food and gatorade was enough.

They just left, but I feel bad, is it normal to tip, we paid fortune.

We tipped when we moved. We tipped the head mover, his partner, and the local crew that they brought in for the two days to pack and load. We then tipped on the other end also.

We tipped but I'm always afraid they won't take care of our stuff if we don't..At least you gave them food and gatorade.. Don't worry about it now. Hope you enjoy your new place!! :goodvibes

ooh, Icebrat, are you all moved in and settled? Tell us how it went!

Nope, not all moved in. They just picked up all the stuff we packed here in California. We leave Sunday and plan to arrive in Florida on Wednesday. Can't wait to see our new house.

LOL, I thought you were talking about coming over on THE Mayflower :rotfl: I was like geez I know you aren't quite that old ;)

I thought this was about the Mayflower Hotel in DC, which I stayed at a few weeks ago.

Yes you should have tipped the movers. I believe I recall us tipping $20/pp.

Unless it's the owner, I always tip people who do a service. Enjoy your new home!

a month ago i would have said not nescessary, but....our movers were nice enough to offer to stop the clock on our move and do a side job of packing/unpacking the private truck we had. they had filled their truck to the brim and saw how much we had left (not enuf to justify them coming back with their mega truck for a second run but a significant amount). said they would stop the clock, do the work and we could compensate as we saw fit (i should note this offer was made after we told them not to worry about lunch and got a big pizza, soda and brownie delivery made to the house where we had chairs in the shade for them to sit on).

the time they spent on the regular part of the move came in at 2 hours less than had been bid-so they got tipped the difference-$300 split between the 3 of them. it was a godsend to not have to pack and unload the second truck ourselves. i think they were pretty shocked-but they deserved it, they were lifesavers.

p.s. congrats on getting out of crazy northern california-did you plan this heat wave as your swan song (108 degress-realy!) best of luck in your new home (which one did you finaly pick out? do you have a photo you can post before you leave?)

My DH tipped our movers - and we also fed them pizza and sodas! I'm not sure if it's the norm or not, but that's what we did.

We did not tip our movers. We paid by company check and they did not include tip money and we didn't have a spare dime to our name to pay them with! We moved due to a new job...

I offered to buy them lunch the day they came and packed our house and the owner said he would take care of it. I offered to get them drinks and they brought their own cooler and refused... Either they didn't like me or they didn't care about that stuff ;)

Exciting, exciting! Anxious to hear what you and SO think of FL!
