Stop laughing. No...really. I mean it.

Over the last few years, I had gotten into the habit of pre-writing my checks when I went to Target to avoid spending too much. If the amount of the check was less than 20$ more than the total of hte purchase, they gave you cash back. Well..no more. So..I didn't have any candy for the kids. On the way home from work tonight, I stopped by a park and got a good size handful of smallish rocks. Clean ones..no mud or dirt on them.

So that's what I handed out until DH got home with the candy, by which point most of the trick or treaters had already gone by.

Yes..I really did give out rocks.

Um, why not just turn out the porch light and not answer the door until your DH brought candy home or even give out small change?

What was the point of handing out rocks? I wouldn't have handed out anything.

DH says I have a very odd sense of humor. He also asked our neighbors (who saw m e carry in the rocks)why they didn't stop me.

I think I would have just left the light off until DH got home with candy.

Well, I felt bad because I didn't have anything to give them except the rocks and I didn't have any small change that is readily accessible. The only bank we have in the house is one I made from an old can of formula with the top superglued down to lessen the chance of myself or DH breaking into it.

Plus...the kids who did show up and got a rock already had at least a halfbag full of candy at that point. It's not like I was depriving them of more sugar. They're going to go home, empty the bag out and go.."Wait a minute. I got a rock???"

By the time DH got home with his $16 bucks worth of candy, everybody was gone. We had I think 2 or 3 kids show up after DH arrived home.

Doen't anybody remember the pharse spoken by the kids coming to your door?

"Trick or Treat" Get it TRICK or Treat.

I think it's a Halloween classic! I wish I had the "rocks" to pull that one on the kids in my neighborhood! Get it.........."rocks"

OK, so I've had too much sugar and I have a major sugar high!:hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

Great Trick TOV!!! I love it!!!

Wait till the Tag Fairies read this one!!!
I'll bet you have a NEW tag in the morning!!
Rocks? ....Just picture the parents faces as they are going through those trick or treat bags!! :rotfl: I think that's pretty funny! Weird, but pretty funny!

A pretty novel idea, ToV, very creative, I liked it, thinking out of the box.

I guess I just have a wierd sense of humor. I thought it was funny,as did one of my neighbors when he saw me getting out of the car with the rocks and I explained what they were for.

If my kids brought home rocks I would be a little upset. Can you amagin young kids wondering why they got rocks instead of candy? I don't think most would have such an adult sense of humor. You should have turned your lights out (just as the cranky guy we ran into should have then did). If you aren't going to participate in handing out candy (until hubby came or whatever) turn out your lights and don't open your door. I hope none of them saw what they were getting as that would have spoiled a few good times. Sorry to sound harsh but we went to a house with lights on and didn't want to participate and slammed the door. My kids were fine but it hurt me that he did that to my kids. I wanted to knock on his door..... but I did the better thing and walked away. anyway I almost liken this to the same thing. TURN OFF YOU LIGHTS NEXT TIME. That is mean and isn't funny and even if I am the only one that thinks so then there was at least one kid that was sad or mad... and not a happy camper. isn;t this about the kids?

and like I said even if I am the only one that thinks that way at least one child probably does too. ok this is all just my opinion and what I wouldn't do. To each his own but think of the kids

I don't think it's funny either. I hope none of the small one's choke on one of your rocks, thinking it's candy.

If those kids have ever seen "It's a Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" they're going to have low self esteem once they check out their loot!! LOL

My son got several pieces of Christmas candy in his bag. I would have preferred rocks to year old candy. My DS actually loves rocks. He would have been thrilled!

capthooksmom

that might not be last years christmas candy. Several of the grocery stores in my area have already started putting out some christmas candy!
