I did some BIG number crunching last night...

Pulling the boat was the downfall to the fuel mileage. I haul my racebike behind our Malibu and the mileage suffers greatly untill I take the trailer off the car then it is fine.

Hey mousy - I thikn we are long lost twins - my DH is also a "mchinist" or whatever the heck you call it - he fixed big stuff on lathes and supes up hotrods and fixes my daily driver - I said to him we need one 'normal' car in this family - if it was up to him I would be dirving DS to preschool in a monster truck or somthing (although DS would be all in for that) - anyway we will be in the world shortly after you and are also waiting for SWA to release their next round of rates. I would still vote for flying for you - mabe if you force save $10 a paycheck or somthing btwn now and then you can make up the difference?? I am a bad influence though as I hate driving for long distances, and I want my vacation to start on a relaxing note, not 24hrs in a car! Best of luck whatever you decide and I'll be online w/ you trying for those $49/one way flights:teeth:

My DH was thinking of being a machinist but Changed his mind.. He likes the challenges of his job.. it is funny cause when we need something that is an odd size or a bolt that needs to be extended or something he always makes one at work.. lol.. only my Husband.. but hey it saves extra money for the trip right!
I just got my AAA discount yesterday and I am waiting on a better one but this is nice incase nothing comes out!

I keep checking SW to see when they are releasing their dates.. so far.. nothing.. I just want to compare and shop for the best deal! :hyper:
I looked last year and I saw that in late November they were offering $39.00 each way.. so I have hope since it is an off season that I will get a deceit deal.. at least I hope so!!!! The good thing is my dates are flexable so if I have to move it a day or two either way to get the best deal I will!

Time will tell...

Hi Mousy - how old are the kiddos? I think that would help me decide. We drive as I now live in North Carolina (grew up in
Sarnia) but it is only a twelve hour drive vs your 24hr one. I would fly from here since it only takes less than two hours but my DH is somewhat of a tight wad and doesn't want to put out the money. The last time we went (two years ago now) I made the kids pick out four DVD's each and we set up the van like a little living room for them. We took out the middle seats and they were sitting in the back row and a large rubbermaid container that we bungeed the TV and game cube on too. They stayed pretty good. Driving doesn't seem to bother anyone except me. I think it would tire me out for that long of a drive and then start worring about how long it will take us to get home again. We are driving again in November since we are going the week of US Thanksgiving there were no deals for flights and we are cruising so we will park right at the port. It is a hard decision that is for sure and if I could justify the price and it worked out close even if the flights were a little more expensive I would take the plane.
