Yesterday I got the go ahead and ordered the new Canon 5D MkII. I am on the bottom of the waiting list so to speak but at least I know my name is etched onto one of them. I can't wait to get it - but I doubt it will be anytime soon. Cross your fingers for me.

Fingers are crossed!! Wow...that is so exciting. I can't wait to see what you do with it. :)

Thanks Amy :goodvibes

Come on Andy - leave that 30D in the dust with me. ;)

I am totally excited. I have wanted it for a while - mostly for the full frame and low light capabilities. I get so dern frustrated with the noise issues that the 30D has. I feel like I have grown tremendously with it - but have gone as far as I can with it. I am really looking forward to the next step and growing and learning with the new camera.

The video capability with the 5DMkII is a nice perk - but not the reason I want the camera at all... and probably won't be used much.

WOW Jen is seems like just yesterday you were having dust issues with your XT and your DW came home out of the blue with the 30D.

Looking forward to seeing what you can do with that new 5D MK II.

Andy, if your going to keep up with the baseball thing in the summer you might still be better off with the 30D and its 1.6x crop. The FF will shorten your current field of view.

IF you do end up moving up, I'd love to try it out though. Even though it is a Canon, I don't think it will burn my Nikon hands. LOL

The XTi now belongs to my youngest. She really is doing a good job with it. She impresses me a lot. I will have to hack into her smugmug site and post some of her work here (with her permission of course).

Congratulations! Everyone seems to be pretty happy with them so far. Nice bit of technology.

You're making me jealous--I'd love that camera. I currently have the 20D, and I'm looking at the 50D. I thought about making that jump, but I decided to upgrade my lenses. In the last 3 months I've purchased the 70-200 f4L IS, the 17-55 f2/8 IS, the 100-400 f3.5-5.6L IS, and the Sigma 10-20. I'd love to go full frame, but I've made my choice. I have to admit that I love this set of lenses, and the 50D will be a nice upgrade from the 20D.

Good luck with your camera, and I'll be looking forward to a review.

Congratulations!! (Where's the drooling smiley face when you need one?). Please post some pics as soon as you get it :goodvibes . I'm still eeking it out with the XTi, but since I just got some beginner monolights/softboxes and other home studio-type stuff, I doubt I'll be upgrading any time soon. Good for you!!:) :yay:

Kyle,

I know what you mean about the baseball photography. I am not upgrading anytime soon. Since we will most likely not be getting raises again this year (2 years running now) I don't think that I will have a spare amount of money for an upgrade. Oh well. Maybe I'll land a job somewhere else! :confused3 Anyways, I will get one of these cameras someday. Probably the 5D MIII.

So your Nikonian hands will be safe for now. :lmao:

I know what you mean. I'm looking forward to the upcoming baseball season and getting my D300 into full work mode.

I'm quite comfortable with the 30D. Even at ISO 1600 the 30D can produce a very good 8 1/2 x 11 print. When that's not enough, I use a 580EX II.

Some people see full-frame as an instant short-cut to better photographs. Unfortuantely, it doesn' work that way. That's why you see so much complaining about the 5DII from disappointed amateurs on dpreview.

I certainly hope that you use the 5DII for serious photography and not in green box mode for snapshots.

I'm wondering what your purpose is in making assumptions about someone's ability and insulting them? If you have a look around you'll see she is quite a capable photographer.

Do I have enough skills for the 5DM2? Well my paying clients seem to think so.

And as for the auto modes - the have not nor will they ever see the light of day. I don't even allow my 15 yr old daughter to put her XTi on auto. I have handed her Bryan Petersons book Understanding Exposure and told her I am available to help her if and when she needs me. I have also told her if she wants to keep the camera on auto she does not need a dSLR - her point n shoot would work just fine for her. She has taken a great interest in photography lately and I am very proud of her.

Now - I do understand what you are saying - this camera can not reach its full potential in the hands of someone who has no interest in using it the way it is intended. I intend to use it to my fullest capabilities and look forward to growing as a photographer while using it.

As far as the noise issues - I agree that you can use a flash and therefore have no need for the high ISO settings - in most cases. However, I have a daughter whom is on 4 competition dance teams and when she is on stage performing blinding them with a flash and annoying the other people around me with that flash is not something I am going to do. I was VERY happy with the high ISO performance I got with the 5DM2 at her Christmas recital on the 20th. I was nothing but frustrated with the 30D. I love/d my 30D - it has been a wonderful camera for me. I was more than ready to step up to the new 5DM2 and I have no doubts at all it will also be a wonderful tool for me.

Also in regards to the higher ISO capabilities - while I am not doing wedding photography and not even sure I have an interest in going in that direction many wedding photographers can not use flash during ceremonies and once again - the fantastic performance at high ISO settings is something they need. I did second shoot one wedding (not something I really enjoyed) with my 30D. The church was dark. We were not allowed to use flash. We were told we had to stay put in the back of the church. I cranked the ISO up as high as I could. I used my fastest lens f/2.8 and I was NOT happy with the noise levels in the photographs. I don't know if I am just super picky or if I have very high standards - but I would never want to try that again.

Thanks. :) My sensor cleaning nightmares stopped when I refused to ever go back to the place that made my XTi sensor 100 times worse than when I took it in. Since then I haven't heard anything but bad about that store. I got the camera just over a week ago - on the 20th. I was shocked by how fast it came in. The timing was perfect - my daughters dance recital was that night. I cranked the ISO up to 6400 and got the fastest shutter speeds I have ever been able to get.

The photos are not 100% noise free - but they are so much better. Here are a few of the shots I got that night. The dance photos have been cropped quite a bit.

Since then I have been reading a lot of different forums and posts/reviews about the camera. I read that noise seemed to be better at Sraw1 instead of the full 21megapixel raw - so I tried it.

Here is one at ISO 200

We went to the zoo yesterday and I took a lot of photos there - haven't touched any of them yet - barely even looked at them on the cameras LCD. Came home with a sinus headache (yuck). I am hoping to process them today and I will post a few when I get that done.

All in all I am very happy with the camera. I do not need the full 21 megapixels and I am quite happy going with Sraw1. I have briefly tried out the video and it was fun to play with but not the primary reason I wanted this camera.

I had gone back and forth debating on purchasing an new orginal 5D or spending the extra $ and getting the new one. DH finally said "you are not going to be happy if you settle. You will always feel like you are still one model behind and it will bug you". He was right so I went for it.

It is a noticable step up going from the 30D to the new 5DM2. And like I said - I grew sooo much with that 30D and I am really looking forward to growing with this body as well.

didn't see the page 2 before i pmed:rolleyes1
all i can say is whooooeeee!

LOLOLOL Janet I feel the same way. I know part of it is me knowing how to set correct exposure and stuff - but I was doing that with my 30D and not getting shots like that. SO - a good part of it is the camera body and that wonderful L lens. LOL

does anyone else think the L stands for LOVE? Cause once ya use an L lens you fall in love with it?

Awesome shots...I just wish I had 1/2 the passion that you obviously do.

:thumbsup2 \

You have an amazing eye.
