I.D: What can I use?

I honestly can't remember what I took with me last time but will a photocopy of my passport be enough to use as I.D? I'm 28 but don't want to take the risk of not having correct I.D on me. I don't drive so don't have driving licence.

I doubt anywhere would accept a photocopy. I always show my driving licence and have never had a problem - I guess you'd need to carry your passport (or get a provisional licence).

Florida Law states that they can only take Passports as ID for International Visitors.

Sometimes they can get picky about ID'ing everyone, even though I am clearly not 21 anymore!

There's a thread somewhere else about this and there was a bit of a debate over whether CMs/TMs are a jobs worth or not to ID and not use common sense.

It's not consistent in any parks. In Animal Kingdom I got ID'd by an older lady, at a QS location, didn't have my Passport so got refused. Went around the corner to a cart and got served no problem. Worth noting too that I've never had any issues with any table service location ever.

My wife is 28 and she does look younger, we've got in the habit of her not being in the queue with me so we don't have to rifle through bags for passports!

DH also got IDd at 40!!! Didn't have any ID but they served him anyway when he pointed out his age and how daft it was he was being asked lol.

Also I've been served under age twice (aged 19 and 20). That was in a restaurant with a server who said because we were from the UK it was obvious we weren't trying to entrap them by being underage and getting served lol.

I wouldn't expect that to happen again though

I've had my DL accepted in the past too. I've only started carrying passports since the incident I mentioned above.

Someone on the other thread mentioned that it is not common sense and that the CMs shouldn't get common sense training. I think without common sense we'd all be in a much longer queue!

Interesting to read this thread. TBH i'm going to not carry my passport around with me and just go with my driving license. I'd rather not get served than lose my passport.

Disney have signs up that I saw and for International visitors they will accept either a passport or a copy of the passport with an other original government issued photo ID such as a DL.

Personally, I have always had my DL accepted as ID when I have been asked and never carry either my passport or a copy.

I don't think a copy of a passport alone will get you served and they ID quite a bit and I am well past 21 now!

I'm planning on taking a few copies of my passport with me, and my provisional license.
A provisional licence would cost you a lot less to obtain just as ID than a new passport in the case of it getting lost (also you wouldn't spend days trying to get hold of a replacement just to be able to get home). If you were worried about losing your passport that is.

Elsewhere, outside of Disney, you will need your full passport, I doubt anywhere would accept a copy.

ETA: Don't be surprised if you do get ID'd no matter how old you look. The CMs can lose their jobs if they get caught serving underage, so it makes more sense to ID everyone and be extra careful.

The Inconsistance is the part that annoys me the most. The Florida Law states they cannot accept copies. If they were to be spot checked they'd be in trouble.

This last trip Matt turned 21 a few days before we flew so we were interested to see how ID would work.
We started in Key West he was only ID'd 6 times out of 15 bar visits or drinks with meals. Everytime his DL was accepted.
Only once a bartender (Sloppy Joes) pointed out he would accept it but other places might ask for a passport, they shouldn't really accept a DL.
On the whole we were really surprised how few asked for ID from someone 21 years + 7 days old.
In Epcot to make life easy I bought the drinks as we were in a bit of a rush to get around the World (I wasn't drinking as I drove that night) but as said signs were on the counters saying DL wasn't acceptable.
On the cruise where we probably drank most he wasn't ID'd once but do they check on the system when they scan the room key?

On the Disney FAQ section of the website, there's a question under "International Travel" Asking what kind of identification to I need to bring if I wish to enjoy an alcoholic beverage during my visit?

What I get from that is that a driving licence by itself is not enough, but combined with a copy of a passport would work. But then it states that visitors outside of the US need the original. I'm not 100% sure.

I guess it depends on whether you are willing to risk taking your passport with you and how much you care about being able to have a drink. To be 100% sure take both. If you're not that bothered, take a copy and a driving licence.

Even out of state DLs get rejected. It seems FL is pretty strict about this stuff.

We've been refused our driving licence a couple of times in various places in the US so tended to carry our passport only when we knew we would be drinking. Think next year I'll try with a photocopy of passports and our driving licences.

Saying that though, I'm nearly 28 and got IDed in Tesco 2 days ago! When I showed the woman my driving licence she even said "oh sorry, you're alot older than I thought you were!". You won't hear me complaining of my youthful looks though

Once on the scan it yourself, till my wife had to have some drinks approved. The attendant came over and pressed the button 'Clearly Over 25'. My wife was 24 and not best pleased!

Maybe on paper but in reality, I have never used my passport for ID. That's with drinks at restaurants and bars every night. We go for 7-14 nights each year, no issues ever with using driver's licence and I get ID'd every single time...(and 75%+ of the time in the UK too...). We've had more issues with the 1 ID, 1 drink policy, which means you both have to go to the bar!

I guess we all have different experiences at different locations. My reality is that Disney can be picky on ID again over 2 weeks.

Anyone travelling should be prepared for the worst case scenario of needing a passport for id

Yeh I got a drink at CityWalk with my DL no problem but then at the Rose and Crown of all places I was told I could only have my passport as I.D. I don't mind taking my passport with me when I'm wandering around Disney. It sits down in the bottom of my backpack and only comes out for the purpose of grabbing a drink. It's the same in Australia, where as a foreign visitor you can only use your passport as I.D. so I guess I'm used to it (and there was ALOT more alcohol drunk there than at Disney)
