I Could SCREAM At My DH... Am I Paranoid?

I am probably just being totally paranoid, but I could scream at my DH.

We JUST bought our house. We aren't even moved in yet, but our yard is COVERED in leaves, so my DH was over there raking leaves.

He was doing the front yard when our across the street neighbor and her DD6 came over to meet him. The little DD asked my DH if she could help him rake, and he agreed. So apparently, she took the rake and went at it while DH talked with the neighbor.

Now, we have never had a good look at our yard, as it's been covered in leaves for most of the month. I know we have two BIG holes in the yard from the For Sale sign, one from where it was, and one from where they put it after they moved it to a more visable spot. Who knows what other uneven areas, holes, tree branches, etc., we have under the leaf covering.

Anyways, I immediately thought... BROKEN LEGS! INSURANCE CLAIM! LAWSUIT!

Am I totally paranoid? I don't like the thought of ANY kid fooling around, playing, doing ANYTHING in my yard!

My DH's comeback... "Well, all of our neighbors have said this is a really friendly, family oriented neighborhood!"

...SURE, until someone breaks a leg!

You are being paranoid. :)

Totally paranoid. Do you really want to be that grouchy lady shaking her fist at the neighbor kids, screaming "Get off my lawn, ya little monsters!!"??

Are you pulling my leg? Kids are going to run across your yard during Halloween, unless your porch light is out. If you're serious, heck ya, you're paranoid!!:lmao:

Next time blow the leaves into your neighbors yard 1) Gets rid of the leaves & 2). Neighbors will be so *issed at you they wont let their kids near your house....

Paranoid.

The child was raking leaves not bungee jumping off your roof.

 Never thought of that! You're right!

Paranoid.....

:headache: LOL, no.

Thanks for bringing me down! :worship:

Paranoid.

Kids are experts at spotting holes, since they've probably fallen and tripped over quite a few. They've learned to watch for them. She can probably help you locate all of them when you go to fill them. :thumbsup2 It's adults who forget to look for them when walking. :upsidedow

Very paranoid........relax.....stuff happens in life and you don't have to spend every minute worry about all of it.

We have a very large front/side yard. When we first moved in, we would catch kids playing frisbee and baseball in it all the time. They still do occasionally. I guess the family who owned the house before us let them and they figured it would still be ok.

Honestly I don't really mind, if they'd ask, but just doing it (and continuing to play when we pull up in our driveway, still without asking) just rubs me the wrong way. I never really considered lawsuits, but I guess it's something to think about.

In your case, the mother would have to be very ballsy to sue when she was standing right there watching her daughter, but stranger things have happened.

Not to make you more paranoid than you are ;) but you know, you could also be sued if any of the following people get injured on your premises: mail carrier, newspaper delivery person, fed ex person, Jehovah's Witness or other door to door type of proselytizer, anyone visiting your home, firefighter responding to an emergency, electric company worker, politician coming around soliciting your vote, telephone repair person, meter reader, kids trick or treating, door to door salesperson, Girl Scouts coming to sell cookies, friend dropping something off for you at your house, florist delivery person, neighbor coming over to borrow a cup of sugar, even a trespasser (in some jurisdictions).

My advice to all homeowners is to get an umbrella insurance policy of at least one million dollars, it will also cover your automobiles and will hopefully give you peace of mind. :thumbsup2

Good luck with your new house!!

There are some people who really do feel this way.. My best friend's father was like this when we were kids (I was the only child allowed in the "yard" and could only walk ON the sidewalk to get to the door)..

Another person I know allows no one in his yard because he's afraid his dog will bite them - but the dog has never bitten anyone (or even growled)..:confused3

You're nervous - you're getting your new home.. You'll feel better once you're settled in and things aren't so hectic..
