I have been reading this site (OK obsessed with this site) Since I found it about a month ago. I have always been a disney fan and go a lot. So I learned a lot and realized that I could afford DVC if I went resale (do not want to finance so I bought a small contract to start). Anyway... Now I am waiting for ROFR. It went to disney on 10/31. Anyone have this experience with their first purchase. I just want to start planning my next trip. I hope that I will not go crazy before I hear! Kristen

ok sorry but I am clueless what is ROFR? I am a new member and have alot to learn!

Welcome home, dvcnewgirl!!!!!

Cavecricket - ROFR is Right of First Refusal. if you buy a resale contract, Disney has the option to buy it back first. When people put in a bid for a resale, it goes to Disney first, so people are always waiting to see if the contract was bought back or will be allowed to continue as a private transaction. Disney typically buys back when the price is too low or they have a waiting list customer to whom they could sell those points for a higher price.

With the 15% deal at SS you can buy direct thru Disney. :Pinkbounc

Hey New Girl,

I was right where you are a few months ago. Learned all I could and a bunch of stuff I hadn't even thought of asking from this site. Then made a decent offer on 100 points VWL resale which went through.

We went resale for a few reasons which may have been similar to yours. The primary being that I could afford 100 points without going into debt, but not 150, and the secondary being that I wasn't too enthused about SSR.

We hope to reach a total of 300 - 400 points in 3 to 4 years, with the contracts spread out among various resorts. We may even buy SSR someday, but for now, we're in, and have bought the time to see what new DVC resorts may be in the works.

Thank you all for wishing me well. Shawn I think we have about the same idea. I plan (once i hear the outcome) to start buying points in chunks of 25 using my disney visa and paying it off before the 6 months. (If I am right I think you get the points interest free for 6 months.) Anyway that is my plan I will soon have an adding on addiction! Kristen

I definately wish you the best on passing ROFR. I too started out with a small resale purchase (40 pts at OKW). I know that ROFR wait can be killer! I certainly don't want to discourage you, but several people have been ROFR'd here lately for low amounts, seller paying closing, and even smaller contracts. Of course no one knows the "magic formula" for determining ROFR and hopefully you will get through.

Definately keep us posted.

BTW, what are the terms of your offer? Where, how many points, how much per point, any available, etc... There is a ROFR thread that Beca started and I've been trying to keep updated. The more info we have on resales, the better.

Again good luck and here's some :wizard:
