I'm so excited!

We're new DVC members and we're planning our first trip home to AKV in April 2010. We'll be taking my parents along for their first stay at AKV also.

We had some points that we could either bank or use. Of course, I wanted to use them...DH said bank 'em. Well, I booked a 1BR value at AKV for June 7-11 and told him that I would cancel it if I couldn't find airfare for under $700 for the 4 of us. Yesterday, I booked airfare from DTW-MCO for...$636!:cool1:

Our initial plan was to spend Saturday night in Detroit and fly out early Sunday the morning. When I checked airfare, I realized I could save another $200 if we went out on the last flight on Saturday night. So....I jumped on the phone to MS to see if they happened to have a value studio available. I only had 20 points left so this was our only option. By golly, they had one! I booked that immediately and then booked our airfare. Now, instead of driving to Detroit and staying at the Marriott, we'll be getting on the plane and heading "home"! The best part is that it saved me $200 to add a night!

Now, we have never been to Florida in June. I am a little scared of too much heat and humidity:scared:. I am going to buy AP's since we're going again in April 2010, but I don't know if we're going to go to the parks that often. I took a friend of mine and my DD's on rented points to AKV in October. My only regret is that we didn't spend a lot of time partaking in all of the activities that the AKV had to offer. Since this will be DH's first stay at the AKV, my intent is to take in the resort and only go to the parks if the kids really want to. I know they'll want to go to AK for sure. They LOVE animals:love: which is why AKV is our home:cutie: . Since we are staying in a value room, we won't be in Kidani, but I am hoping that we will be able to try out the new water playground. Of course, the pool at Jambo is nice too. Maybe the Jambo pool won't be that busy if everyone flocks to the new one!:)

Anyways, I am really excited to be able to take my very non-Disney-loving husband to AKV. I hope that he falls in love with it as much as I did. My girls are looking forward to eating at Boma (DD5 calls is "Obama":lmao: ....she combined "Boma" and "O'Hana" and came up with "Obama") and zebra domes:love: .

Who has traveled to WDW in that first week of June? I know about the rain....that's not a big deal. I'm just worried that we'll be in 95 degree heat with 100% humidity:scared: . Oh well...we have that in Michigan too....but in WDW, we'll have a pool!:rotfl2:

We've been going in June for the past few years. It's warm and humid and you'll have the afternoon rain storms. But it's an incentive to spend more time at the pool or at the waterparks. We usually head to TL when it opens, spend a couple of hours and then head back to the resort. Then it's time for a nap, then we hit the parks later in the afternoon.

We might also go to a park at opening and then leave before 11AM so we can be at Disney Quest when it opens to do a few hours there before nap time.

Nothing like the mid-afternoon nap to give you a little extra juice to last longer into the evening. My husband and son like to hit EMH, especially at Epcot or MK until the wee hours of the morning.

Welcome home! And what a lovely home you have. I have a feeling your husband will also fall in love with AKV. How can he not?? It is a pretty manly place!:thumbsup2

PS loved the Obama!:lmao:

My best advice for touring wdw in the summer months is to get up early and hit the parks at opening, tour until mid day (noonish) and then head back to the resort and enjoy its charm and amenities or just relax or go the pool. Then after some R&R, have dinner and go back to the parks. This is our strategy for when we visit during the summer months. This plan also gives you a chance to enjoy the resorts as well as provide some quality family time, away from the parks.

If you can, travel very early in June. The later in June you go the heavier the crowds will be. It will be warm for sure.We went the first week of June this year, June 1-6 to be exact. We were a week after Memorial Day and found the lowest crowds I've encountered. The crowds grew significantly the next few weeks as northern schools broke for the summer.

Welcome Home!!!! We are going this June for the first time also. I need to check those flights good price!!!! Thanks

We're actually going June 6-11...we had to wait until the kids got out of school. We took them out for a January 2008 and October 2008 trip so we didn't want the teachers mad at us already! The kids are in kindergarten and pre-school:lmao: .

:dance3: SO glad I booked when I did! Ok, so the prices will fluctuate between now and June, but I got our Spirit airfare for $49.50/each (+ taxes/fees) and it is now up to $94! The AirTran flight that I paid $64/each (+ taxes/fees) is now up to $149:scared1: ! I am going to tell DH as soon as he gets home from work what a smart move he made by caving in right at the perfect time! I paid $636 for our flights. If I booked today, it would cost me $1028 for the same flights!:woohoo: :cheer2:  :cool1:
