I can't sleep

I'm wide awake and have to start getting ready for work in a hour and a half. Can't sleep cause I can't stop crying.

What's wrong, Susan?

I'm having sleep issues, too. I sure sympathize with the rest of you.

That's exactly how I am. I can go to bed around 10 or so, but then I always wake up at about 1. I'm sleepy after that, but I just can't...sleep. I always lay awake watching TV or reading. Luckily I can take a nap about mid-day. I haven't tried any drugs yet, but I think I'll buy some Tylenol PM's soon.

for those of you that go to sleep at around 10 and wake up between 1 and 4, if you were able to force yourself to go to sleep later would you still wake up between 1 and 4 or would you wake up later. If you would wake up later it might be worth trying to force yourself to stay up later a couple of nights and letting yourself go to sleep closer to midnight or so, that way you might wake up closer to 5 or 6 which would be more reasonable.

I know that if I go to sleep around 10 I will wake up around 2 myself and have a hard time going back to sleep, but if I go to sleep closer to 1 am, I am able to sleep until 8 or 9. That is a lot more sleep, I don't know why it makes a difference, but I don't think that it could hurt to try.

Makes no difference. I have gone to bed later and I am still awake at ath same time.

Went to my 20th HS reunion. I was worried about staying up, well I managed that, we had fun, and my friends and I did not get back to her house until 3. So I should have been exhausted and fallen right to sleep, NOPE, I tossed and turned and finally just got up at 8 and went home. I did nap later which is odd I try really hard not nap.

I can't get to sleep. I have always been an 8 hour a night girl but lately it is taking me 4 hours to go to sleep. I think I may be averaging 4 hours a night and this has been going on for 2 weeks.

I read other people ages-I am 37. Is it not bad enough that we are getting older? lol

Could you be suffering from depression?

I've been going through depression off and on my entire adult life and that's the one symptom that sends me to the doctor for meds quicker than any other! I can handle the blues, the apathy, the worry, but I can't live with the insomnia!

to those that don't take a perscribed med because you are afraid you won't hear your kids. http://www.rozerem.com/consumer/howdoesrozerem.aspx

Try Rozerem. I could write the book on insomnia. I have had it since I was in high school and have had sleep studies done and have taken most of the prescribed and OTC drugs and this is what I take now. I have no problem going to sleep, its staying asleep that I can't do. What I do is take the rozerem when I wake-up, not when I first go to bed at night. I fall asleep fine, but then I wake up around 1:30 or 2 and would stay up all night. Now I fall sleep, but when I wake up in the night, I will take the Rozerem and I fall back asleep and then sleep until about 5:45.

Last night I went to bed about 10:30, slept until about 1 took the Rozerem, the dog woke me up about 2:45 and I let him out, went right back to sleep and then got up at 5:50 and I don't feel tired and worn out like I use to. I think I sleep better now and don't always feel exhusted during the day.

Could sleep apnea have anything to do with this? I'm not that familiar with it.

I was going to ask that question myself. It may not be what the problem is but it is worth exploring with your doctor. That happened to me for years and towards the end I would see every hour of every night. I'd fall asleep right away and then wake up at 11, 12, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and then get up for real at 6. I'll bet I saw every late night program ever offered on TV. It turned out to be apnea...I sleep through the night now.

There are other symptoms like snoring, etc. but that isn't always necessary. I'm just saying it might be worth investigating.

I am going to stop back later today and read more. Thanks.

Would it work at say 3 or 3:30? That seems to be my witching hour. I am always afraid to take something even just Tylenol Pm bc I need to get up at 6and most of these meds say take it when you can devote 8 hours to sleep or the Tyelnol PM is basically just Benadryl but that needs 4-6 hours as well.

I woke up at 1 last night and was so desparate I did take a Benadryl and I did hear DS10 coughing during the night that I went and got him some water.

Mushy-

I have considered depression (not gone to Dr) but it s almost like a chicken or the egg thing. When I do sleep, I feel better, have more energy and get more done. When I have the insomnia, I dont fell weel, I get nothing done bc I am dragging, I have no patience, and bc of that I get very depressed, and feel like failure.

I rarely get a good night's sleep. I don't usually stay awake for hours at a time, however, some nights I'm up 3, 4 or even 5 times. Just restless sleep.

It's pretty annoying, & when I sleep a full 6 or 7 hours I'm in heaven. I can sympathize with your sleep issues. It's frustrating.
