This is getting unbearable. I havent slept right in so long. I can fall asleep super fast, but I can't stay asleep all night. I will typically fall asleep about 10/10:30 but will wake up anywhere between 1:30 and 4:00. I feel lucky when it's 4:00. When I do the math 10:00 - 4:00 is pretty reasonable even if not ideal. I know people do it. But if I could get those same 6 or so hours but a little later in the morning my life would be so much better. Getting up at 4 is terrible. By noon or so I feel like a corpse. It's terrible and it's taking it's toll. Have any of you tried anything that worked really good? Even sleeping pills only keep me asleep until about that same time. Do you know what lack of sleep does to you? OMG, it's bad.

If it helps, I had a pint of cider and 2 cosmos earlier and that put me right out :rolleyes1

Hmm, thought I was the only one. I usually fall asleep around 10:30 and for some reason I've been waking up around 1:30 or 2:00 every night. Last night I was up at 12:30. It's so annoying! I usually tip-toe out of the bedroom so as not to wake my DH and go sit on the couch while watching t.v. I've taken an Advil or Tylenol PM and sometimes I still wake up in the middle of the night. :confused3

Yes I have the sam exact problem. I cant make it past 10 and then 3 am seems to be my problem time. I then manage to fall asleep about 5:30 and the alarm goes off at 6.

I have absolutely no energy to get stuff done so I get behind and frustrated. My patience is shot. It stinks plain and simple.

Ambien does work but I dont like to take it all the time.

If you dont mind me asking, how old are you, I am just wondering if it is an age thing. I am 38 and I have heard of a few others in their 40s having problems so maybe I am starting early.

Ambien does work but I dont like to take it all the time.

I've tried Ambien also. It knocks me OUT, but not for any longer... plus, I would never wake up if the kids needed me. It's like a street drug or something! Lunesta is like sugar pills to me. They worked a little bit at first, but now, even if I try to take one a week it's like taking nothing. Liquid childrens Benedryl works best, but you cant live the next day when you use it for prolonged periods. Once in a while is fine, but Im so far past that.

I take ambian CR and most of the time that works. Sometimes I still have trouble falling asleep or will wake up at like 2 am. Luckily I don't work so I can take a nap if I have to. I would definetly talk to your doctor about your sleep problems. I also know when I am stressed I get less sleep.

I sleep like a baby, ya jealous ;) . I do feel for you, nothing is more miserable, then lying awake while the rest of the world sleeps :guilty:

I'm 42, and this has been going on for about 5 years.

I'm 42 also. I have had trouble sleeping for about 3 years. I fall asleep early enough but wake up anywhere from 2-4am. I don't have to get up until 6:30. I feel OK if I fell asleep around 10 or so. But there are nights when it is between 12-2 when I do fall asleep. I need more than 2-4 hours of sleep!

For three years I have taken something almost every night--Tylenol PM, Nyquil, Benadryl, SleepMD and finally Lunesta. It really bothers me that I can't seem to sleep on my own. I took Lunesta for 25 nights straight and got pretty good sleep. However, I do not want to keep taking it because I am afraid of addiction and I think I should be able to sleep without a drug. Right now, I usually take a Lunesta on friday night to try to make sure I get at least one good night's sleep. BUT, Saturday morning I woke up about 4 a.m. so it really didn't help.

I have talked to my doctor and there is a possibilty I am starting menopause (or at least peri- ) I hope that is what this is. I am tired or being tired.

Hugs, OP. I feel your pain.

Me too. Im 42 and have had this problem about 3 years. Fall asleep fine but wake up about 4:00. I toss and turn about an hour and then awake/asleep off and on til 7:00. I take over the counter stuff or melatonin. They dont really help, I think I am more psychologically addicted to them than physically.
Ambien helps but I dont like to take it all the time.

I don't sleep well at all. Been going on since HS so well over 13 years--I'm 31 now. It does seem to go in cycles though. Sometimes it takes me forever to fall asleep. Sometimes I fall asleep right away only to jolt awake 30 minutes later then I'm up for a long time. Sometimes I wake up around 2-3am and can't get back to sleep for a few hours. Fortunately, I'm a stay at home mom, so I can usually find time to nap during the day. But the nap just gets me through the day and then I can't sleep at night.

I have taken Tylenol Simply Sleepy. It works pretty well, though I have to take it an hour and a half before I want to sleep. I usually take that for a night or two and then I'm good for several days on my own. And sometimes I'll go for weeks sleeping well.

I know the feeling...:sad2: my brain is just racing all the time...too much going on in my life right now... But somehow I keep going. It will get better though...at least I hope so!:flower3:

I have the complete opposite problem....

I can't get enough sleep. I would literally sleep for 12 hours a night if I didn't have two little rugrats waking me up in the morning.

I hope you find the answer to your problem soon. I know how crabby I get when I don't get enough sleep - I can't imagine not being able to sleep for that many nights in a row.

Good luck, good night, and sweet dreams.

I've been waking up at 4:12.52 exactly every night for the past two weeks.

Ok that is freaky.

I have this problem in cycles. My DH snores and once I get woken up it's over for the night. I usually end up trying to sleep on the couch or in DS's room.

I have been taking Advil PM or Advil and Unisom seperately under the advice of my doctor for the last month and half. It seems to work (except tonight where I can't even get to sleep!) I noticed that the Unisom keeps me asleep. Doesn't really put me out but keeps me there.

Tylenol Simply Sleep doesn't touch me. I don't want to take any RX pills because I am afraid I wouldn't hear/function of DS needed me and DH sleeps like a LOG ... well a LOUD log.

Have you tried Melatonin? It doesn't work for some, but it has worked for me. The good thing is that it not addictive and doesn't make you groggy. I can still get up if I need to and not be doped out. It doesn't stay in your system very long I guess? You could take it as soon as you wake up in the middle of the night and see if it helps. I find that within 20-30 minutes I can't keep my eyes open and I fall right to sleep.

You find it with Herbal Drugs/Vitamins in any pharmacy department. I take 3mg. It is at least worth a try.

This is why I only take it on the weekends. Dh gets up super early and had to drive all day so I dont want him to be woken up, although my kids dont really wake up anymores. DS4(alomost 5) use to have horrible sleep problems. He didnt sleep through the night until he was almost 3,sensory issues.

I'm wide awake and have to start getting ready for work in a hour and a half. Can't sleep cause I can't stop crying.

I've read quite a bit on sleep deprivation.

Here are some tips to help sleep thru the night:

Exercise late afternoon( will help you sleep deeper and longer).
Eat a bit of protein before bed (cheese slice, milk, yogurt).
Take a magnesium supplement tablet.
