I can't remember...do you need the actual AP for checkin??

I can't believe I can't remember this info but...well, I can't. (I know this has been debated about a hundred times on here...) Do I need the actual AP for my AP room rate on checkin or can I get away with my voucher??

According to the CMs the answer is yes. But it actually depends on who checks you in. Sometimes they ask for it and sometimes they don't. We have had 3 trips on our AP and they never asked to see our pass. I was worried sick on our first trip because we had trouble getting our APs or vouchers before we left for our trip. Then when I checked in they didn't even ask. But I did call ahead and explained our situation and that we were arriving late and would not have a chance to pick one up before checking in the hotel. They said that I could show an activated pass the next day. But that was never necessary. Hope this helps you more than it confuses you.

IvyandLace, believe you me we have stayed several times at WDW and when we used to have AP's, every and I do mean every single time we made a resevation, they checked to see if we had an AP only when we had started to check in. Please keep in mind, when you book your reservation with an AP discount you don't have to have an AP, but they will ask when you check in!! Hope this helps, Chip.

I don't know what Disney official policy is but I can tell you my personal experience.
This summer I checked into OKW, AKL and GF with AP rates and was never asked for proof that I actually had one. Also at GF I booked an extra room for friends and was informed when making the ressie that I was required to be present when they checked in if I wanted them to get the disounted AP rate. Turns out they checked in without me and got the discounted rate anyway.
I doubt a CM would give you a hard time if you presented a voucher.
The vast majority of Disney CM's bend over backwards to accomodate their guests. My guess is that, at worst, you'd have to provide the actual ticket as soon as you reasonably could.

This past july we checked in at AKL with passholder rate and WAS asked to show AP at check in. I think voucher would have been ok, too.

Well after having stayed at WDW several times over the years and especially several times in 1998 due to an AP, we were always asked to present a valid AP when checking in for the discount. Now having said all that, there may be people who have done this and have never been asked for a valid AP, but that has not been our experience. I'll put it this way the only way I would chance this is to book the room and then play it by ear. If asked I would then have to present a valid AP, not a voucher which isn't an actavatied AP, just a voucher! Hope this helps, Chip. BTW, if you do this and you are ask for an AP and either you don't have 1 or you don't end up getting 1 they will charge you their full rate per night depending on the season you will be staying!!
