Finally opening my eyes to what I thought was good for me, but aint.
I was buying Green Giant Rice Medley (rice, peas & mushrooms) as a way to have an afternoon snack and get my vegetables. However, now that Ive looked at the back of the box it has 970mg sodium!

Uh oh, time to go through the cabinets. And I bet reducing the sodium (and fat) I consume daily will help me loose weight. Think so?

Barb,
Try staying away from any processed food. [if you are concerned about sodium] Most all of them are loaded with salt. Make your own Rice, Peas and Mushrooms using 'real' unprocessed foods --- and the sodium will be way less.

:D

It really is eye opening when you start to read those labels! Fresh is better anyway! Good luck cutting the salt- that's a tuffy!

I only eat fresh veggies, but I have looked, on occasion, at the back of those bags of frozen ones, they are loaded with sodium! I don't even use salt on any of my food, well except for hard boiled eggs and cucumbers, but even then, it is very little!

Good luck cutting out the sodium! :)

Yup, avoiding processed food will be the best thing you can do for your health.

As far as getting your vegetables: how much rice, peas and mushrooms would you have to eat to get a vegetable serving? Only the peas are really a veggie, and you'd need 1/2 cup of those to count as a serving. That means you'd eat LOTS of rice along with it...

I've found that I REALLY have to read the backs of those boxes, too.

Now you have to find an easy substitute! I like to lightly steam a cup or two of broccoli (still crunchy and crispy!), spray on some I Can't Believe It's Not Butter, and sprinkle on a little lemon pepper. 0 points, veggies, and yummy!
