Ok so hubby wants to get something straight....

I can book reservations up to 11 months in advance from my use year at my home resort right?

At other resorts I can book 7 months out from the travel date right?

The following is all theoretical....
Well if I decide this weekend that oh, I have 50 points to use, and a vacation day, so I will make it a 3 day weekend at Hilton Head because 50 points happens to be enough to cover my 3 day, and the reservation I have had for 11 months at SSR.
If there is a room available and I have points available, I can pick up and book like that right?? There isn't a certain number of days I must book in advance right?? Even though HH is not my home as long as things are available I can do it whenever??

Basically the 7 and 11 increase your chances of getting your preferred stay right??

It's 11 months from the travel date at your home resort and 7 months at other DVC locations!

And to answer the question about if you were to book for HHI or any other non home resort given there is availability, yes, you could go ahead and book the trip. I don't think there is a cut off date at all for booking.

Also, make sure to always book your home resort at the 11 month mark of the ending date you plan to have your vacation, then if you would like, you can try to change it at 7 months out for another location. ETA: Obviously, if you decide to try for something "spur of the moment" then this wouldn't apply and you'd just have to hope you can get what you want then.

A few things I've learned from here though is to make sure they don't cancel your home resort booking until you are verified and booked for all of the days of your stay. And you could call day by day or wait to call at 7 months out from the day you leave the resort. Hope this helps a bit!

Use Year month has nothing to do with when you can travel or even make a reservation at a DVC resort. You can always reserve 11 months ahead of travel for your home resort. The reservation date determines which Use Year the points are deducted from.
