I can't find canned pumpkin!

Is there some sort of pumpkin shortage this year? I've been to 3 seperate stores and I can't find any canned pumpkin.

I saw a friend post on FaceBook a few days ago that she couldn't find any either, but I didn't think anything of it at the time. And I'm really craving some pumpkin bread.

Yes, there is a shortage. It was on the news last night.

Apparently the growing season last year was overly wet and there was a shortage of pumpkins. Libby's now has enough pumpking coming out as we speak, but it will be a "few cents higher per can" than usual. The news said it should be arriving in stores this week.

I am having no problem, I am in Florida and Publix has plenty.

I saw it at Whole Foods. I didn't get any, 'cause I wasn't planning to use it right away...didn't know there was a shortage though! Should have picked it up!

Huh. That is so strange.

I actually sent my husband out the first time and he came back empty handed. I thought he'd just forgotten it.

And of course when I can't have something I want it that much more.

I just bought 2 cans today. They were out of the store brand, but had plenty of Libby's and a couple of other brands.

We grow pumpkins and had a bumper crop this year, despite all the rain.

I heard about the shortage too. Luckily I already got the kids their pumpkins but this year they were unusually light, like they had no meat in them. We're going to wait a bit before carving them because I think they will rot earlier than normal.

It is starting to show up on shelves now but I have not been able to buy it for weeks.

My beloved English Cocker Spaniel has been declared overweight by the vet and placed on a diet on one half of his dry food and one half cup of pumpkin. The diet has been quite successful and he has dropped the extra pounds. About mid-summer I couldn't find any pumpkin at Kroger and talked to the manager. He told me that the suppliers were out. I figured that we wouldn't be getting any pumpkin until this year's crop comes in.

I finally found some at Meijer's and am planning on stocking up as soon I see it on sale this fall. Hoping I see some for 99 cents a can. Should be any day.

I bought canned pumpkin at WalMart yesterday...they had plenty. Had not heard about the shortage...better go stock up!

My dog is on a pumpkin diet for too, but for digestive reasons. I haven't had any trouble finding pumpkin in upstate NY. I have been buying it at Walmart and Shop Rite.

I think the shortage is pretty much over. It was based on last year's pumpking growth and they canned less, which is why they ran out. They spent extra money and bought and canned pumpkins from this year and it is hitting the stores now with a bit of a higher price.

The news said that it does not effect pumpkins that you buy in the store for Halloween carving.
