I have now sold and brought over 400 things on ebay and never had any problems. I have been going through a little selling splurge of late as I am trying to save the money for our Disney tickets.

I sold some chair covers on Monday last week for over £200. The buyer needed them for a wedding at their venue this Saturday so as soon as they had won they paid me and I posted the parcel as promised as soon as I received notification that I'd been paid from paypal. By the time I got home just over an hour later I had an email from paypal saying that they were investigating the payment so the money had been taken out of my account and that I shouldn't post the item. I'd had contact with the buyer so I called them to ask what was going on, as far as they were aware there were no problems but they appologised and promised to get to the bottom of it and call me back. In the meantime suspecting I had been scammed I contacted parcelforce to ask if I could stop my parcel and get it returned to me. They said they could but I would not be able to claim back the £30 postage. Obviously I would rather loose £30 then £200 so I recalled the parcel. I called the buyer to tell them this and to let them know if they could get the money to me some other way then I would post again using parcelforce next day. My DH even offered to drive the covers to them to ensure they had them for Saturday. This would have been an 8 hour round trip for him so he asked for £100 to cover his petrol and our lost £30. They refused. A day later I got another email from paypal saying the money had been returned to the credit card and the payment was cancelled. However today I received an email to say that they are now trying to make claims against me saying that I have stolen their money and not posted the item as promised.

I have all the proof through paypal that I have not stolen their money but this just makes me feel bad and makes me wonder if paypal are as trustworty as they make out.

:scared1: OMG that is awful
At least you have all the proof.
have you contacted paypal to tell them about the new email, this needs sorting out as soon as possible.
maybe email the couple what you have written here so they can see it all step by step and then see what they say.
sending you :goodvibes hope it gets sorted

That is terrible! :headache: Hope you get it sorted

Oh Emma sorry to hear about that.As you know i am a fellow ebayer, but i honestly don't know what advice to give you-as it's not happened to me.It's a good thing that you have all your proof+make sure you don't delete any emails from Paypal or these buyers.Obviously i am no expert but it sounds like, from what you have written here that they may have recalled there money back from Paypal themselves:confused3 .Paypal normally only stop a payment if it is a dodgy card or a stolen one etc...I had Paypal contact me about a payment by someone+she had used someone elses card+had done it for loads of stuff-so Paypal took the money from me+returned it back to the original person, and i lost out.I hope ou get something sorted+let us know how you get on.x.

I think from what the buyer was saying this is what they have done. They've only have a feedback score of 3 so pretty new to ebay. From what I understand they tried to pay me using paypal but had an old credit card on their account that had expired. They couldn't figure out how to add another card so they opted to pay me using a credit card and this some how involved their mother in laws paypal account. They confused me to be honest when they were trying to explain it all to me. Anyway I think they messed up payment and paypal thought it seemed dodgy so investigated it. To top this the buyers asked me to send the items to a different address than the one listed in their paypal account. Once I got notice that the money had been taken from me I checked to see if I was covered and because I had used a different address I wasn't protected through paypal. This is why I paniced and got my item back. I feel bad because I feel pretty certain now that the buyer was genuine and that paypal has messed us both about. If I had let the item go they probably would have got money to me but it was too much money to risk.

What I don't understand though is how I got emails telling me there was a problem with payment and later that it had been resolved and returned to the credit card but they have had nothing except my word that there was a problem. Also they are saying that the money has not been refunded to the card when I have an email from paypal saying that it was. :confused3

I hope you get your problem sorted out as well Michelle

Emma, that deffinatley sounds funny to me.It is true you can use someone elses paypal account to send money to someone, when i first started buying on ebay,i would use my neighbours account from across the road-albeit she done it for me+i would just give her the cash. But this still does'nt sound right, and it's true that you are not covered by Paypal for sending to another address that is'nt the one registered on there Paypal+ebay account. My opinion-i think it sounds like there using dodgy credit cards,i believe this even more because they have said that they have'nt received the money back to there card, when you have proof by email that it has.I believe you done the right thing by stopping the parcel-i would have done the same thing.x.

As for my hic-up,that was last year+unfortunatley when stolen cards are involved the seller(me)loses out,you don't get nothing back-thankfully it was only £10 with me.x.

Thanks Michelle, DH always tells me I am too soft for my own good and will believe anyone. I am relieved that I got my parcel back as I felt so sick to think I had just posted £200 worth of stuff that I hadn't been paid for

This all makes me wonder whether I should go back to accepting cheques and postal orders again. It is a hassle but at least once a cheque has cleared in your account you know the money is really there. I have just been reading stories from the sites Wayne gave about people having chargebacks months after the transaction took place, very scary.

Im so sorry to hear about this and thank goodness you have proof, a while a go we had someone saying they had not recieved their parcel and we had to pay them their money back! This was strange as all the other parcels we have sent have always reached their destination!!

I think it just goes to show whilst the majority of us are trustworthy and honest there is always someone out there who is a scammer:(

Good luck sorting out this mess.

Sorry to hear you are having problems with Paypal & Ebay. There is a lot of discontent going on over Ebay (just read the general forum there).

I hope you get it sorted.

I'm sorry you are out of pocket for the £30 but glad its not anymore. I've only sold two items on eBay, both sofa beds so I only accepted cash when they picked them up.

I think this could be the case of an inexpirenced eBayer but you never know in this day and age!

OMG that's awful!! I don't really have any advice as I haven't had any probs with paypal/ebay, but I don't use it that much.

Hope you get it sorted Em... :wizard:

It all sounds terrible, it sounds as though getting the parcel back was the best thing!

It sounds like you were scammed to me. we have had a few odd dealings with ebay over the years. my general rule is: assume you are dealing with scammers until proven otherwise. Its sad I know but the way these sites work in way that make it sooo easy for scammers to operate.

I don't really have anything to add which hasn't already been mentioned other than to say that eBay owns PayPal. They bought it in 2002.

Paypal are getting ridiculous! and Ebay!

I got scammed luckily they ended up paying eventually.
I sold a pram for over £200 they paid Paypal.
Everything was fine, posted, they emailed to say they had received it,I checked the signed for and it had been.
After a month LATER.
I sign into my Paypal funds and see it said - £200+ After clicking the dispute I realised the buyer of the pram had cancelled the CC payment through Paypal! so Paypal took back the money they was month later.
I was fuming...so I emailed the buyer.
They replied,I luckily also had an email via there work...so after numerous emailing, they finally sent me a cheque which cleared! it took months! but Paypal even received the proof etc for the dispute but still went in there favour.

Thing is anyone can do this! and now I wont sell anything via ebay what is alot of money. It has put me off.

Glad you've kept all proof etc..I would threaten getting the police involved if they continue to state you have scammed them etc.
Whats coming of this world.:headache:
