I can't believe my FMIL!

Pictures are at the top of my list and if it makes you feel any better I am paying over $2000 for my pictures I don't really care about flowers etc. Pictures will remind you of that day forever!;)

I would def. get it.. You mght regret it in the end.. and its your wedding.. You do what you want...

I vote for pictures. It's too special a day and there will be things that you miss just because you are "in the moment". I would definately get a photographer. I couldn't imagine trusting someone who wasn't photo saavy to take pictures on my special day.

Trust your heart, get the photographer!

Lucky your fmil is only complaining about the photos... My fmil is complaining about us having a wedding to begin with.... it's a 2nd for both of us, and she doens't think it is appropriate she thinks we should just go to city hall. She won't even discuss it or when the subject comes up she has a few things to say.... ahhhh, just have to love them. Anyway back to your problem. $500.00 for pics is really pretty cheap. 17 yrs ago for my first wedding I spent 2000 for pics and 500 for video. my ex did not want us to spend the money on the pics, thought it was a waste of money. But once we had our album, he was glad we did spend the money, If someone doesn't know what they are doing when taking pics your going to have a lot of butt shots, headless people, alot of pics of nothing. If money is really tight, you still have time to save it, cut corners etc. Get your pictures, if you don't, you will always regret it,

My rule of thumb?

Spend the money on things that you can take with you......that you can have 10, 20, 50 years from now.......i.e.: Pictures

Go with your gut and spend your money on the things you want most that you can't replace. :thumbsup2

I'll join the I agree line....

my MIL in didn’t understand prices either....but post wedding she is singing another tune....She carries the photos everywhere.... just in case there is someone new to show them to.....talk about a 180

Just leave it as this is something important to you.....

I have to tell you, I know EXACTLY where you are coming from! Our wedding my wife and I were cutting corners so we hired a photojournalism student with semi-pro digital cameras and they were HORRIBLE! You will have FEW things other than memories to keep for the rest of your life, and the pictures and videos are IT! Splurge on that one thing if nothing else!

I also agree - follow your heart and get the pictures. Aside from the fact they will be a great memento of the day for years and years, if they are that important to you not getting them will aways stick with you and bother you. Your wedding day is too special to be marred by "if only I had gotten them".

Also, there is another thread on here about letting famiily members or friends take the photos and someone pointed out that the person taking the photos might get so caught up in the moment they might forget to take the picture. I know there have been times when I was holding my camera and forgot to actually take the shot - I personally wouldn't run that risk at my wedding.

Good luck! pixiedust:

Thank you all for your support!
I wanted to let you know that I had a talk with DFH and explained how important this was to me. He said his concern is going over budget and as long as I shop around and make sure that I'm getting a good price that he's ok with it. He was just worried that I was booking the first photographer I liked, whatever the cost.
And he said that he doesn't care what his mother thinks, she can have whatever opinion she wants but it's our wedding not hers. I knew there was a reason I was marrying him! :goodvibes
Thanks again, you guys are great!
