EDIT: I'm a dork... don't read this, it didn't really happen... remove this? :)
pretty please? I think I'm delusional...

I think I just got scammed for the first time... the girl's name was ... no, I'd better not say it, because I'm not 100% sure that was it. I though I knew all the scams and knew how to be careful, but I guess not. I was trying to trade an invisibility pin for some mickey ears (for my little brother, 7, who started playing recently) and this girl asked to trade then put up a bunch of pins, plus a magic mirror, saying "that's all i have, plz?" or something. I said, yes, I will trade for that magic mirror. I had up invisibility, she had the mirror up, she clicked accept, I clicked accept, then some text flashed at the bottom of the trade window and it closed. I think there was some quick clicking going on, but I don't see how it's possible. If she removed anything, wouldn't I get another chance to click accept? Very sad and slightly disillusioned...
:(

I'm so sorry that happened to you. I only trade with people I know since these kinds of threads are popping up more and more. Why do people have to do those kinds of things...it's JUST a GAME! I wish I could help you. Maybe you could make a new character to get your invisible pin back?

I don't know, I just don't understand how it could happen technically. I thought if anything changed you got to click accept again? I can earn another invisibility pin, but I really wanted to get my brother some ears. He keeps asking me where I got mine... I might give them to him and hope I can find some more some time? Sigh. Maybe he'll get tired of them and give them back? ;-) I tried to report it, but I just get error.50? Grrr.

Yes, it sucks to be scammed.

I got scammed the other day too. I won't post the person's name, but I will PM it to anyone who asks. (oh what the heck - his name is PayCheck. Tell me if you see him somewhere)

I was trading with him on VMKfansite for a VIP code. I wanted to get the code before I gave him items. He said no because he said he had been scammed that way before. After looking to see if anyone had posted about him, and not finding anything, I agreed. I traded him a full space suit. He never sent me a code.

I have sent a letter about him to VMK and VMKforums. I know there really isn't anything they can do, but I want it on his record in case he scams someone else. At least I am an adult and not a little kid. I knew the chance I was taking when I did it.

probably goes without saying, but you did double check your posters (and not furnishings) to make sure the mirror wasnt there? If so, that stinks. sorry to hear it.

NJ Mike, you are my hero. I feel like the World's Biggest Idiot. Seriously. With all the scamming threads that have been going around, I got paranoid when I thought I saw activity after I clicked accept and the window disappeared. I didn't even think to look in posters for the mirror. I am so very very very relieved that I did not post her name and I was not able to report it. My faith in people is restored and I'll bet I can trade that mirror for some things including mickey ears! I feel so stupid. Thanks for all your sympathy, at the moment, it helped, cause I was sad. I don't suppose this thread can be deleted? Probably not, my embarrasment will continue until the thread slinks onto page 2 or 3... :rolleyes1 Sorry for jumping to conclusions and for bothering you all about it!

Another thing I have learned, an embarassing way, is that if you offer something for trade and then the trade doesn't happen, sometimes the item disappears for a few minutes.

First time I went to trade invisibility that happened. I thought I had been scammed. I even reported it. I checked, double checked, went to other rooms, etc, the pin was not in my invetory. Had to sign out and back in and it was there.

That is true! I thought of that and signed back in to see. I would have expected her to say something in that case though, not just disappear. I was just too paranoid. Sigh. [repeats to self: this is a game. this is a game. not real. no, not real....] Ah, feeling wonderful. ;-)

That happened to someone that was trying to trade with me. The person offered me all kinds of things for my ears by I refused to trade. After the trade ended, he got all mad at me because his stuff was gone. He left my room, came back in, and his stuff was there.

Don't feel bad. I too know it's just a game, but when I thought my son might have been scammed, I was so upset. It happened right at closing, so I had to to wait till morning to find out. Luckily he wasn't. I woke up extra early to see if he had been. If he had of been, I was going to play pirates until I earned him two pins. lol. I guess to me it's just a game, but to him it's more. He puts a lot of his heart into the game. He plays on Neopets also. He buys and sells things on there and has built up quite an inventory and neopoints. I would be so upset if someone hacked into either of his accounts (VMK and Neopets).

That's why when I'm trading, I always remember, it could be a 7 yr old kid on the other side, and if they seem to not relize what they are giving up, I tell them. And if I see a kid offering the world for something that can be got with a free code, I let them know. I can't stop the scammers, but maybe I can make a difference to one or two.

And if I have someone ask me for something small, I will just give them it, unless it's someone who is always asking me. Like the other day a girl asked to trade with me. I figured it was for my ears. Then she asks if I have a yellow skirt. She starts putting all sorts of stuff up for trade (cheap stuff, but a lot of it). I tell her I didn't have a yellow skirt. Then I exit, go buy the skirt, and then retrade with her and gave her the skirt for a tank top they give you free. I would have just gave her the skirt, but then I was afraid she would start following me begging for more. I have gave away so many clothes it's not even funny, but it makes me feel better. I doubt I am being scammed, who would bother to scam for clothes?

lol, dont worry about it. I actually got my mirror as an unexpected gift. I bought a pair of gold ears online (real ones) from a DL park shopping service, and they said they would include the gold mickey ears card. Well when i got my package they had also included the mirror and happiest celebration pin cards as well. Long story short (too late lol) i entered the code, and then couldnt find the mirror for a few minutes till i figured out where it was lol, so you're not alone. :teeth: just glad it ended up being a good trade in the end. :earsboy:

I know what you mean MaliaMichelle - I don't mind giving small stuff away all the time. If kids ask to trade, but they don't have anything I want, I'll often offer them a free piece of furniture. But the other day I offered a kid his choice of three different things and he's like, "is that all?" "um, yeah, I'm just -giving- it to you." (he had actually come up and asked me for free stuff) "no thanks." He wanted free stuff, but not unless it was incredibly cool. I was lol, I mean who turns down free stuff?
