I blew it in booking at DL. So mad at myself.

Hi all. I just needed to vent about my screw up and figured this was as good a place as any to do that.

I received my daughter's 2015-2016 school calendar in May and saw that as a result of a longer school day, she had a few extra days off school in November. Went ahead and booked flights and waitlisted at the VGC, as all the nights we wanted were booked.

Finally reached the two month mark, with the waitlist still not having come through, so decided to bite the bullet and use our points to stay at one of the hotels on property - knowing that if we had to cancel, our schedules wouldn't allow us to take another trip to use the points before they expired. That (along with the hope that the waitlist would come through) wasn't a risk that I wanted to take that far out (and I'm even nervous about it with the trip still two months away).

I called MS this morning and found out that they were only able to book five out of the six nights we needed, which was disappointing, but I figured that if I had to pay for 1 night out of pocket, it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. I then called Disney reservations to try to book the last night, and found out that they are completely sold out at all three hotels. I hadn't done my research, which would have shown that our trip coincided with the Avengers weekend - and that's on me.

I now feeling like an idiot for having waited so long to book.

Trying to find the silver lining in the situation, I think that this may be our opportunity to finally stay at and try out Universal Hollywood.

Anyway, vent over. Not looking for sympathy for my own mistakes. Just needed to get this off my chest so I can try to stop beating myself up for being so foolish.

Sorry it worked out that way. The good news is that there are loads of hotels in the area--or as you suggested try out Universal Hollywood.
We haven't had much luck with VGC the past few years. I typically book a ressie at 11 months and then find out it is off by a week when DS gets his schedule--I need a better crystal ball. :) Last year, DH, DS and I stayed at a Marriott property for when they were there with me. Then, I moved over the VGC for a week and my sister and her daughters joined me (we had both made ressies at 11 months). I was never able to move the ressie to any of the nights when DH and DS were there.
This year, my ressie was a week after DS's vacation. So, I ended up cancelling, but we were able to reschedule for the week before Avengers weekend. :) When we finally made our airline ressies it worked out that DH and I will arrive a day early, but we are going to have to stay off site. I keep checking availability, but I don't have much hope. I'll send some pixie dust your way. *"'*"'*"""

Did you look at a travel site like Expedia? Now and then they have rooms set aside although I'd guess it's a long shot. Otherwise, like was said, there is lots of lodging close by and I'd think you could find one night somewhere close. And try waitlisting that one night with points. People do have last minute plan changes and you might luck out and at least get one night at VGC.

I wouldn't say you blew it. I'd take the 5 nights and book a 6th night wherever you can find.

There are SO many perfectly good motels and a few scattered hotels around there. This isn't a horrible problem at all. :)

I'm interesting in checking out UH as well, but not until their Wizarding World is open!

there is a Hilton right next door that is great & the Red Lion Hotel was great when we went in 2012. Half our group stayed at the Anabella and they thought it was top class. Cookies delivered with turn-down service
