I always swore I wouldn't do this, but after having my DS this year after 10 years of trying, I did.

I, RadioFanatic, stayed up until midnight last night to go to Walmart to get the new "Elmo Live" for my DS for Christmas which just came out yesterday and is supposed to be the new "it" toy for this year.:rotfl:

In my defense, it is pretty darn cute!

Anyone else do anything crazy like this?

:lmao: back when my eldest was a toddler my sisters then boyfriend camped out in the middle of a city, sleeping on the pavement outside the toy store to get Doodles the dog from tweenies as we had the 4 tweenies for her and this toy store said they'd have four doodles in but their last shipment before christmas... he got one and my sister was queen Aunt that christmas!

I think the only other one was buying our Wii from Germany (we're uk based) as they were selling at twice retail in the UK on ebay and we paid retail for it from Germany with free shipping

Yes, when my now 9th grader was in kindergarten, we went from mall to mall, called friends in different states, etc. just to get a Pokedex (a hand-held device that kept track of all the Pokemon characters...just what every kid needs). We finally ran out late at night somewhere (I don't even remember where) when we found a store that got them in!

I am going to try to get through life without doing it - but I won't say never.

I think if there's a "hot toy" that we "must have" for Christmas and it will take 3x retail, a fist fight, or sleep deprivation, that's the year my son will get a note from Santa introducing him to the Valentines Day fairy that will swoop in to deliver toys while Santa is on vacation. Or something like that.

Here;s hoping anyway...

I did the same thing for a Pokedex :rotfl: . My DS is now in 8th grade. But in the end I ended up paying a very inflated price on Ebay for it :scared: . But he was happy and I never did anything like that again.

Well, despite countless garage sales and trips to goodwill, I refuse to get rid of that thing! It's still in his room as a reminder of how crazy we were - all with the best intentions of course, but I'm with you - never again!

DH stood in line (he got in line at 5am) for over 6 hours last year to get a Wii for our kids for Chirstmas. It was so worth it, we play it all thetime!!

Oh I also forgot that year that Tickle me Elmo first came out, DH bought 4 of them cuz they were going to be worth tons of money!!

My best friend and I do this every black Friday. She picks me up between 11:30 and midnight on Thanksgiving night. We shop and then stand inline for the "it" thing or whatever is the best deal on our list. Last year it was a Wii. We go to a store that carries electronics and toys. They also match prices so we get everything we can from that store that we need from the other stores on our list. We have all of the adds highlighted and organized with lists etc... We even take our camping chairs to use while we are in line. We then hit all of the early morning shopping at other stores and end our day with Brunch around 11 a.m. We always have the best time. She even drove in from Charlotte last year so we could make our trip. This is a huge tradition for us and I do not think we will ever stop doing it. I start looking forward to it in the summer: lmao:

I did it the year of the Furby for my niece. I've slept out 4 times to get tickets/meet the Jonas Brothers. and I'm sure I'll do it again. :rotfl2: Never had a bad time. :thumbsup2

ahhh yes- concert tickets... this one will make me look like a lunatic. My eldest daughter really, really, really wanted to go and see Busted (they were a UK boyband- not sure they ever made America?) and we said Ok she could go for her christmas treat.

I went into labour with her little sister at 2am as tickets went on sale at 9am... I called my sister from the delivery room at around 7am (yes, gas and air in hand and everything :lmao:  ) to tell her she needed to call and get me those tickets! :lmao: As the result my sister got the tickets, bought some for herself and BIL (so they came with us to my daughters first concert too!) and I gave birth to my baby girl at 15.47 (and my sister drove up from the city to visit as she'd had enough warning I was in labour to skip work  )

I did the same thing last year at Christmas. I got up at 3:00 am to wait inline at Walmart to get my kid a Wii. I thought I would be first inline, but was the 9th person there. That morning only 10 were available, so I barely got there in time - huh:confused3 ? My kid was so excited, so it was worth the effort, but I have to admit, I was shot that entire day. All the folks inline said they were buying it as a gift, but after our purchases were rung, several admitted they were going to sell them on ebay. I understand making a buck, but wish folks wouldn't do that, cuz it drives the rest of us to do crazy things like get up at 3;00 am. I hope nothing comes out this year that my kids have to have!!!!!:rotfl:

Enjoy it. They're only little once. Have fun.

And congrats on having your baby after ttc'ing for so long. We had some losses and lots of trouble having numbers 2 and 3 (ended up with twins), so I know the feeling.
