i will be at wl with just my 17 yr old, so far, and if i want to stop in to the bar for a cocktail and snack and have her be with me, for a coke and snack only, i promise you, will they put her out for being underage?

You cannot sit at the bar unless your 21 or older. Most bars in Disney have seating areas where you can have your snack and drink and she can sit with you there.

no they will not.

are you referring to sitting at the actual bar on the bar stools versus in the bar. She can definitely sit in the bar with her parent.

i don't mean at the bar itself. i don't even do that. i mean at the tables, probably not even near the bar.

Not sure about all of the bars but my kids have sat at the bar (yes at the Bar in a bar stool) at the Beach club resort. the bartender (Patrick) was great, he did magic tricks and balloon art. The kids had a great time. And the parents had a few drinks.

My sister, 17 at the time, sat at the bar in the Polynesian with me.

I sat at a bar at Wilderness Lodge with my family before. I was 19 at the time. They never said anything to me. I was ordering non-alcoholic drinks while my family was ordering beers and cocktails. The bartender never said anything to me or my family about me being under 21 and sitting at the bar.

There are places where bars are often signed "No Minors", however, I don't recall seeing this at any of the bars or lounges in and around WDW.

I don't know how you Americans do it. My university years would have been a lot different if I couldn't join my friends in bars until my 3rd year.

Not sure about Florida.....but in Wisconsin she could sit at the bar AND you could order her a drink and let her drink it if you're her mother! :) (Not saying you would....just always struck me as a funny law....)

related..........

My 26 year old DD was carded at every restaurant and bar we visited at WDW in Jan. They are watching.

Where you leave now are adults not allowed to order drinks if minors are at the table? :scared1:

Where do you live?

Sorry, I didn't keep up with your other thread....now I see this was a whole conversation there....didn't mean to get it started again!! :)

I would put it this way. The bars don't always have a front door with a doorman checking days for entrance. So you could get in to them easily. But when you order if the server asks you to leave will be the problem.

For me, my FOURTH year of college! (and for a friend who was young for her grade and then skipped a grade, she didn't even turn 21 until she was done with college)

OP, page 50 of the OFFICIAL Birnbaum Guide to WDW, 2010 edition...

"In Florida, the legal drinking age is 21. Minors are permitted to accompany their parents to WDW lounges and bars, but may not sit or stand at the bar."

Obviously some of those bars seem to not be actual "bars" b/c of the reports that kids have been allowed to sit there (the legal description of a "bar" is obviously just as complicated as "pub" vs "bar" here in WA).

a prior poster said his/her young-sounding kids (something about balloons) were actually sitting at a bar on the stools. bad form

Bad form? Why? My parents let my brother and I sit at the bar with them when we were younger at WDW. I most certainly didn't turn into an alcoholic or learn any inappropriate behavior. However, it did teach me to have a healthy respect for the consumption of alcohol. Last April I took my daughter (5) and my mother to WDW. We had cocktails at the bar at GF and Poly. Nobody told us that DD couldn't be there. As a matter of fact, the bartender at Poly was having fun making her various "virgin" drinks for her to try. I see nothing wrong with this. But maybe I'm the minority?
