That I am looking for a new job ...
It's all because of gas prices, the commute and not enough to do..

What do you think?

I think you should wait until you actually have another job :)

I agree...I'd wait until you have something. I can feel your pain though! I spend average of $100 a week in gas and 3 hrs. a day on the road!! It really sucks. I wish we could just move closer, but dh's parents are in poor health and he wants to be close for them... good luck :thumbsup2

Possibly not the best approach.

Your boss can't control gas prices or your commute, so there's really no reason to disucss that with her.

As for not having enough to do, that's something you could maybe have a discussion about, if you're seriously interested in staying in your current job. However, you can't approach it as "I'm going to leave because I don't have enough to do. What do you think of that?". It needs to be problem-solving discussion along the lines of "I've noticed that I have extra time when I'm done doing my work. What other procedures can I learn?"

However, if you've already made up your mind to leave and nothing the company can say or do will change your mind, don't bother bringing up the issue with your boss. Simply start looking. Try to schedule interviews when you are off work or use your personal/vacation time when needed. When you find something new, give your old company at least 2 weeks notice and leave on a positive note.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

Definitely find another job first. My dad gave 2 weeks notice once and they told him to clear out his desk and then escorted him out of the building!

NOOOOO...most employers will say "Just leave NOW". Wait until you get another job.

In regards to the not having enough to do, I agree with this approach :thumbsup2

Even if you do plan on leaving (and I agree with the others, don't mention it while you're looking), I would still approach your boss on the issue of not having enough work. Show initiative and ask for new projects. :thumbsup2

Look for the job and only tell your boss when you are putting in your two week notice. No need to explain why you looked for a new job.

Most companies do that, but you still get paid for the two weeks. Once you are a short timer you are a liability to the company.

Agreed. That is common practice in many industries.

I did this back in April. I was working in Virginia Beach (usually a 35-45 minute drive from where I live) but with work/tourist traffic it was taking me an hour and a half to get to work everyday (not to mention I was exhausted once I got to work from everyone being so aggressive and almost getting hit several times every morning-and the ride home was even worse). I finally had enough and started applying for other jobs. I got another one 10-15 minutes away from my house which is SO much better (especially the job itself) than what I was doing before. I knew that if I waited any longer than April, summer tourists to VA Beach were going to be in the area and it would take me even longer to get to work. It was such a great decision!!

The only thing that sucks about looking for another job when you already have a full time one is taking the time off to interview. Not only do you have to make up an excuse but then if you end up having to go on a lot of interviews before you get a job you could have to miss out on the pay from being gone from work for a few hours. But I definitely would have one before I quit!! Thinking you'll get a job (even if you have very desirable skills/qualities) easily is alot easier than actually getting one when you quit. It may take awhile! Just my $.02.

If I told my boss I was getting a new job he would do the snoopy dance

What do you think?

What kind of car do you drive?

I am going to wait to tell him...

I don't want to be tossed out like a banana skin....

On Friday, I had a interview with someone from another company about 15 - 20min. down the road from my home....

(I really hope this one is a keeper)

The commute is 1hr and 10 minutes one way and now that there is construction its 1 hr and 30 minutes each way (give or take a minute or two)...

I had asked one of my bosses - which I have 3 bosses- of there was any work for me to do - and he said you can put these folders in order for the next seminar... I know its work but come on I didnt go to school to stuff folders...

I don't think that I am thinking about this the wrong way ... I know its something to do and I did it... Don't get me wrong I will do my job but I wasn't hired to just to answer phone calls and stuff folders...
Believe me I did talk to them and still nothing....

I am just plain tired of being bored and nothing to do... :bored:

Good luck on finding something closer and better. I agree with everyone else though-- don't tell until you have something already lined up.

If you tell them now that you are looking for a new job, because of gas prices, they will view it as you asking for a raise. I would just wait until you have something else lined up.

I'm glad you are waiting to tell them to you have another job lined up. As far as nothing to do it sounds like you asked for more work and they didn't give you any. I would find a new job. Good luck!

No way in H E double hockey sticks!!!!!!

Let me tell you what happened to DH. No one in the company that DH worked for, except family (family owned), had gotten a raise for two years. The Christmas bonuses were cut in half. Yet the family workers were continuing to build EXPENSIVE homes. He worked there for 22 years. Never took off except for a back operation (3 months), and vacation time. For the 7 years that he worked there and I was with him, he never took a sick day, ever. He needed to get another job. He found one, gave his 2 weeks notice, 2 days later they let him go, fired. After all the time and dedication that he given to this place, this was how he was treated. So sad. Unemployment investigated it, spoke with the president of the company, who fired DH, and found out that he was fired for no reason. This allowed him to collect unemployment for those 2 weeks.

This left a bad taste in DH's mouth. I doubt that if he ever applies for another job (probably not, he is very happy with the company he went with), that he will give a 2 weeks notice. But he probably will, that's just the way he is.
