I am so mad. Deer

I was worried about defective airbags as a matter of fact. But they said since i hit the deer dead center both times that may be the reason why they didn't go off. I would have rather they totaled my Van to be honest. Ford does not make a quality vehicle in my opinion. But we inherited the van from my Grandpa, so I can't complain, since it was free. We have paid for it in other ways though .... new transmission, new alternator (twice) new Rack and pinion!!! Now there is a recall on the rear axle. When I called to make the appt for the recall repair I asked the mechanic why they just don't recall the entire crappy van!!! (Sorry if anyone here works for Ford, but in our case, we got what we paid for!!!

I hit a deer 2 Christmas' ago and it caused $10,000 damage to my Honda Civic - the tow truck driver thought my car would be a write off but they chose to fix it instead. My airbags did not deploy as apparently deer does weigh enough to set off the airbag sensor.

I am so sorry that you hit a deer too. It is so expensive. I had to pay the $250 deductible, $150 in betterment fees as they had to replace the battery and windshield and here in Alberta, you have to pay a betterment fee on certain replacement parts - grrrr - that was frustrating. Then I had to replace the windshield in the rental car because we had 50 below 0 weather and as I was driving - all the sudden the windshield cracked. The cost to replace the windshield in the rental was $400 plus I had the rental car for a month while they repaired my car and fuel was double the cost of my Civic. So the cost of hitting the deer was $1,000 total for me. :headache:

Good News!!! My car is not totaled. It was over 3000.00 but not totaled. So yippee. What a relief!

Lets pray for a few more years out of my car. Thank you for those of you who understood my worry! I should have it back in a week and a half!

Got mine back yesterday where the deer hit us 2 weeks ago this Wednesday - You cannot even tell it was hit. Looks brand new.

What's with all the deer lovers? I'm sorry but they are not only a nuisance but truly dangerous to motorists. My bil had a terrible accident with a deer in his soft-topped jeep and nearly died. The deer overpopulation near us drives us crazy every year. We don't eat deer meat but I would be close to inviting hunters onto our property to lessen the herd.

I hope you don't lose your vehicle.
Yes, there is something to be said for responsible land managment. My Dad and DH are members of a land managment hunting club. They are issues tags and must kill x number of does and x number of bucks pre year to retain the ablilty to hunt the land. It helps manage overpopulation. In the county they hunt in, there are twice as many deer as people, and several poeple a year die in deer related car accidents.

I've hit 2 so far. The adjuster actually said, "How do you know it was a deer?" I looked him square in the eye and said, "check out the hair stuck in the wheel." Case closed. The 2nd was was less damage and I duck taped the fog light underneath and hooked my own bumper back on. :thumbsup2
Yeah, I felt bad for the deer but we live in farm country. They are everywhere. We have a hunter that hunts right out back every gun/musket season. I've seen them shot...I really don't like it and I don't eat the meat either. But here, it is the way life is.
Sorry OP about the vehicle. I too am holding on to no payment for as long as possible- God willing.

OP, so glad to hear your car isn't totalled. DD19 hit one two years ago on opening day of hunting season in her new Mustang that I had special ordered for her. It was $6500 worth of damage, but not enough to total out. It did get a whole new front end at less than 2000 miles!!

Please, please get the axle checked ASAP when you get the car fixed. In the Boston area a man was killed in an accident just days before the recall notice went out.
