I don't mean to be a gripper but....
I just learned that Timekeeper is closed! I am so disappointed.

This just adds to what I feel is a trend in WDW. It seems, more and more, the attractions (esp. in MK) are divided into one of 2 categories: Either preschool/fantasy rides or adult & teen/thrill rides. There are less and less attractions that a family with children of varying ages (mine are 2, 6, 11 & 14) will want to do TOGETHER, as a family! This was Walt's dream when he opened Disneyland. He wanted a place for families to have fun together. Now more and more families like mine will be splitting up and keeping in touch with cell phones and 2-way radios. Somehow I don't think that's how Walt pictured it!

Sorry to be such a downer but I was already upset over loosing Carousel of Progress and now Timekeeper!:(

Bummer.

My family usually chuckles at me as I love Time Keeper, Car. of Progress, and the Hall of Presidents. I hope TK comes back!

You might want to ask this on the Theme Parks board. I've read that both COP and Timekeepers have opened when the park gets busy. It doesn't seem like a predictable time but the both have been open recently.

Great News! Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress in the Magic Kingdom's Tomorrowland reopens on June 22 for the summer season!

From Deb Wills newsletter sent today.

crazymom, just wanted to say I have 4 also (12, 10, 8, and 5) and I could not agree with you more!!! I have heard that all of those attractions are still open occassionally, sure hope so. What is this world coming to when all people seem to want is thrills, thrills, thrills???

I beleive that CoP and Time Keeper are opened during peak times at MK to help with crowds. CoP I think opens at 11:00am. Fortunately when we've gone, they both have always been open. These are among my wifes and mine favorate rides. CoP is my sons favorate ride at MK from the first time he rode it, and he's now 23. Some of us never grow up fortunately!

Thanks so much for everyone's replies. I really thought I would be banished from the boards for posting a negative about WDW. I'm glad to hear that others will be missing these attractions, so I must not be the only cornball out here.

I think the fact that these attractions are there but only operating during busy times is even more frustrating than if they were just replaced. I would not have minded so much if they were replaced by similar (Whole family oriented) attractions. It seems such a waste to have these attractions just sitting there, closed down to those of us who choose to get the most for our ticket $ and visit only during the off season. How much could it cost to run them for a day during these times? Probably about as much as Eisner spends on his lunch that day!!

One of our entire families favorites is CoP - my 3 DD's are 13 & 10. They actually run to CoP when we're in Tomorrowland to see if it is open.

It is sad to see that so many people only want thrill rides. There are so many other things at WDW. You could spend a whole day in the park just browsing all the sights.

My BIL's family is like that. When they went to MK this past Easter they called us when they "were done with the entire park". They got their at rope drop & by noon they said they had seen & done everything. For them that means just the thrill rides & the Haunted Mansion. How sad not to be able to appreciate everything that WDW has to offer. They think the shows are "boring & a waste of time". They think AK is boring because the only 2 things to do there are the Safari & Dinosaur!! How wrong they are.

We find that its better not to even talk to them about our differing opinions.

We were also told that Timekeeper is opened during busy times but it was very busy while we were there and it never opened. I mentioned this to a CM and she just said "I know".

We also noticed that the Timekeeper sign is gone and that Buzz uses the entry for meet and greets. It doesn't look good for the Timekeeper IMO.

So true! When I am there I love to enjoy the whole atmosphere. So many people do not appreciate that about WDW.
I remember standing at the entrance to the building that holds the movie theater in China Pavilion. If you look up there is a beautiful dome made with stained glass. To me it was breathtaking so I stood there for quite a while taking it in. I was amazed at how many people briefly glanced up at it and kept on walking. There are probably thousands of things in "the World" that are overlooked or ignored by people who treat Disney as if they are at a carnaval, jumping from one "ride" to the next.

While I'm not a big fan of "Timekeeper", I totally agree with you. I think the problem is technology. Way back in the mid 70's, when I was a teenager, I thought EVERYTHING in WDW was cool. That's because back then, we didn't have looping coasters and free-fall rides. We didn't have coasters that were 450' high. We had what we had and that was it. When you went to WDW, on the other hand, you got stuff that was uniquely Disney.

Now, the Cedar Points and Six Flags of the world are changing peoples' views of what's fun. Alot of kids today simply don't appreciate what Disney has to offer. They're looking for higher, faster, crazier. Thankfully, I have a kid who loves COP and many of the dark rides, and I'm sure she's not the only one. It's just that the stuffed shirts at Disney don't see it that way. They figure if it isn't an attraction that results in blood curdling screams, it probably doesn't warrant anyone's attention anymore.:(
