I am sad about my son graduating : (

:cool1: Congrats on your son's accomplishments! My 3 sons wrestled too, one passed on wrestling in college, one graduated last year and went to OSU, the other graduated Friday and is heading to OU. (The OSU one is transferring to OU so they will both be there together now). I live outside OKC so won't be too far, but it IS hard to know that I won't be able to be as involved as I have been in the past! We've been to Fargo the past 10 years in a row, it will be wierd not to go again! National duals are fun, are you going to OCU to watch them?

As my daughter told me.........it's time for the end of this chapter.

She is well prepared for college, and I am thrilled for her.

When my oldest DS graduated high school it was thrilling. He was headed in a new direction to a fabulous college out of state. The whole family was excited for him and NO CRYING!!! That being said...when youngest DS graduated high school I was devastated. I knew DH & I were done for good as far as having our boys with us full-time anymore. YUP, when your youngest goes off to college it really is a shock to the system. I knew with oldest DS that I still had one more at home to care for and be there for 24/7!!! But when he left me for a fabulous college out of state it was as if my world caved in (sort of)! Well that was two years ago and DH & I have loved every minute of these college years for the boys. Just exciting new chapters. Now my youngest was selected by his college to travel to the Island of Crete for the entire summer on a GRANT and dig for Pottery and when the dig is over Aug 15th he heads to the University of Glasgow, Scotland for a semester of overseas studies.....SO he leaves me June 26th and he will not be HOME until Jan 2007!!!!!!! I am doing my best everyday to spend QUALITY time with him!!!

Michael wanted to go to App for their criminal justice major, the outdoor activities and also because he wanted to go to college where he would meet all new people (as does my daughter).

So, you can be very comfortable with your son at App. As a mom, I think the place is fantastic!

That is what my son is doing there . Well besides Wrestling for them he will be a ciminal Justice major also.

Yes we will be there and the runny thing is he turned down an offer from OCU LOL to wrestle for them and I hope he doesnt like it better then the APP campus cause that is where he told them he is going and that is where he is going ! LOL

Mad4Mickey,

The criminal justice major at App is an excellent program. Michael just finished a course in Homeland Security and goes on trips including the state crime lab and maximum security prisons. He has worked in the law enforcement field for several years, and our city police department requires a 4 year degree plus academy and strongly recommends a masters, so he is well prepared. I think your son has made an excellent choice. App has a great retention rate from year to year, so the kids must be happy! Are you going to a regular orientation program? We are going in June.

Many many hugs to you my friend!!!!

I didn't know that your DS was going to be so far away :guilty:

Tell your DS that I said congradulations on his graduation :cheer2: and for him to have a fun summer with you before he leaves. :)

Try not to feel so bad . You should feel proud that you raised a wonderful boy that finished highschool, has the ambition to be awesome at wrestling, and wants to continue his education in college. This shows that you are an awesome mom!!!!!

My DD graduated from HS on Sat. I weeped through the entire 1.5 hours. I've been ok since. She has been living with her friends for 2 months. She is going to school in town so that is good. She needed a bit of freedom for the summer. She is an amazing child!! I am thrilled for her. Today she is sleeping in her own bed right now. i t was a long weekend for her and she does not have AC at her little house. SHe said , "I need a good night's sleep or I'm going to go nuts!!!" Glad she looks at us as her stable place. She may move home in Sept. to save $$$$. I will miss her playing soccer!! She is so good but is not playing this summer. She and her sister played together last year on the varsity. Really neat!! Just one to watch this year!

My son Graduates on Sunday . He seems fine with it of course : )

I will miss him when he goes accross the country to NC for school .. ( WHY GOD WHY?)
He will be at ASU to wrestle for them , Texas is not known for wrestling and of course that is what sport my son is going to do in college.
Why couldnt he wrestle in a state close to home you ask . Why because he is trying to outrun his mommy of course LOL

Anyway anyone else sad ? I am really kinda getting scared at how much I cry at the drop of a hat about it . It is a long way between Dallas and Boone : (

God bless them for fighting for him with the other schools but why couldnt they be closer to home .

I have an almost 11 y/o and an almost 15 y/o - and the almost 15 y/o? He can go. He's driving me nuts lately... "Youre going to join the Peace Corp in Zimbabwe, for 12 years?!?!?" Sounds great!!"

The 11 y/o old - Im SCARED about it, even NOW!!! :guilty: Who will great me at the door with a smiling face? Who will give me a kiss goodnight, even if Ive eaten a meal overloaded with garlic and onions? Who will be my "baby"?!?!?

Im feeling your pain - and I still got 7 more years. :grouphug:

Mad4Mickey,
Congratulations to your son! My DS graduates in 3 weeks.. Yes, I feel happy and sad all at the same time. I get sad over the silliest things... Don't laugh, but a trip to the grocery store will set me off--going by the refrigerated cookie dough thinking about DS going off to college in July. I won't have a chance to bake him cookies, warm from the oven for an after school snack after he takes off for college...
It sure will be different. DH and I will have more chances to travel at non-peak times now, but one of the reasons I liked to travel was to show DS different parts of the county...
Now that I think about it, I think I will put some cookies in the oven.... :teeth:

-DC :earsboy:

I send my son home made cookies at school - they aren't warm, but still good! My daughter and I send him a Halloween pumpkin filled with candy (and little goodie bags for his roomies), a box of Valentine candy (more goodie bags for him roomies) and an Easter bag if he can't get home for Easter (and, yup, more goodie bags for his roomies). His friends get a kick out of it, and he loves it!

For his 21st birthday in April, we sent him a party in a box.......hats, napkins, goodie bags with monster trucks and trinkets. He said his friends think I am crazy but pretty cool. Guess I could become a boring momma............nah.

Hugs to you and congratulations to your son. This is a big milestone in his life. I would be very sad too, if my son moved away to attend college. It will be life-changing for the both of you.

Think that you get an added bonus when you go to Boone to see your baby boy because I'm not far away. :cool1:

We got a spare guest room---but, its still maybe 3 hours to Boone. I wish I could do a day trip to meet you, but NC Beast's schedule is changing a bit before our vacation in September. I thought about you yesterday when I booked an ADR at WCC.

Congratulations to your son and best wishes as he begins his college career. :thumbsup2

((hugs)) to you Mom. Even tho you are so proud and happy of their achievements, to see them actually leave the comforting nest and your guidance is such a big transition. Especially when it is more distance than you bargined for. Rest assured that if he has come this far you have done your job very well and he will continue to strive the best he is capable of. I promise you it will be ok and by thinking positive and keeping the faith each day gets better.

We had 4 children in 5 yr period and put all four through college. I know the pain well as they cried when saying good bye and I cried all the way home after delivering each one to college. Our first and last were the hardest adjustments. Back then not everyone had a cell phone like now nor computers with IM, web cams, etc. Our phone bill from them was tremendous, but I hung onto their every word when they called about their goings on and supported them with an open ear. Thankfully their chosen colleges were within 3 or 4 hr driving distance, because about every 6-8 wks I'd find them on my doorstep needing some TLC. The holidays were wonderful and like an open house with all their college friends. I will say, our son adjusted to being away at college much better than his 3 sisters. :teeth:

We are indeed very blessed, they all graduated college making us very proud and have successful careers, homes and families of their own. :goodvibes
