Well, just wanted to say Later to everyone and to thank those who offered excellent advice on the financing issue for us, Carol for answering a couple of my questions so fast and well :) , the mods for not kicking me out when I went and posted that icky occupancy thread without reading first  , and all the other great DVC owners I have had the pleasure of speaking with about DVC and Johnny Depp. :teeth:

Anyway, I made the happiest purchase of my life less than a month ago. DH and I worked hard to get it, and I was on top of the world when we signed our papers. I was even happy to send the money!! :)

I have researched DVC to the hilt and I have been helped with the things I do not understand by great people on this board.

But I will not have the wind knocked out of my sails.....I bought DVC because I loved SSR. Now I feel like a second class citizen. I don't think I would EVER do a member meet if they make you wear name tags saying where you own. So, I'll stick to the planning boards for my DIS fix.

I wanted to thank you all first though who have been so great to me through the process of buying in!! Even the guys who told me we would be broke. :teeth:

Take care y'all and enjoy your trips!!!

Each time a new VC is built, their are people who are negative.

Enjoy you're lovely SSR, and details when you get back.

Not sure if "outta here" means that you will no longer be posting on the DVC boards b/c of being treated as a second class citizen...or if you are just on your way "home".

Either way...please realize that the majority here are so positive and friendly to all. Yes, the SSR-bashing continues, but it will die down....and if nothing else, the SSR owners are in the majority LOL! And even if the bashing does not die down...there are always those who post gripes about ANY of the DVC resorts. I have seen BCV bashed a lot lately and BWV too. But remember that the strength of DVC is that there are different resorts for different tastes. And in my opinion, they ALL rock! :)

Please visit here again...

Welcome Home and congrats on your purchase. SSR is a great place and you do have access to all the resorts........Bottom line is we all own or lease a piece of DVC....

I would hate to see you leave these boards because of what others are saying.
I belive that SSR is a great resort and that is why I purchased there (also the extra years)...
Do not feel like a second class citizen....nobody should have the power to take the wind out of your sails. Be happy with your purchase and enjoy all your stays at any resort you want to go to in Disney. Be proud to were a name tag with your home resort...besides you will get to wear it for 12years longer than the other resorts.

I'm really sorry to hear that!!! Truly...all DVC resorts to get negative reviews on this board....it is just the nature of the beast when money is involved. And, I actually do appreciate ALL honest reviews, whether I agree with them or not. Trust me, I love BCV....and it gets slammed a LOT!! But, there are also some good posts about it. And, seriously...both sides are/can be correct....it is a GREAT resort with some issues.

I do hope you come back to play with us sometimes....I enjoyed our Johnny Depp dreams!!!!

Beca

P.S. You'll never be asked to put your resort on a nametag...seriously, you'll never be asked to put on a nametag!!

Your post is a little nebulous as to what your exact intent and meaning. If it is the Forum that is giving your grief, as with the majority of Forums out there, you need to develope a little thicker skin, and ignore the junk and embrace the good stuff. Whatever your decision, good luck. :sunny:

:goodvibes :goodvibes sorry to here that but your just taking this a little to serious. DVC is suppose to be fun and informative. If we didn't have neg and pos. posts then we really don't need these boards. :goodvibes :goodvibes

Resort bashing goes in waves. Before SSR it was BCV. As a BCV owner that did annoy me, but it never made me feel like a second-class citizen. It just made me feel that I strongly disagreed with some other folks. I actually find people on this board to be more civil and tolerant than on most public bulletin boards.

I hope you're not under the misperception that the people on the planning boards are different people from those here. They're not. The three DVC boards differ in topics, not posters.

I also find the vast majority of the posters here helpful and considerate.

To the OP: congrats on your purchase, as long as you are happy with it, that is all that matters.

As to what is said here and that possibly making you feel like a second class citizen by owning at SSR. Only you can allow that to happen.

The thing with the discussions here you have to realize, some share facts, some share opinions, and some have issues that they try to resolve by being a pain the butt.

You have to learn to seperate them especially in regard to SSR. For example.

Fact: SSR is large.
Opinion:That bothers some, does not bother others. Does not make it inferior just large.
Fact: SSR is not within walking distance to a theme park
Opinion: Not a problem to me, buses take me to the parks. I like being close to Downtown Disney.
Fact: SSR is themed after Saratoga Springs, NY
Opinion: SSR has no theme, I would hate for the lovely people of this city to hear that.

So my point is opinions are simply that, what someone perceives about something. Never let them change your opinions and never confuse them with facts and you can survive here and enjoy the good part of the forums.

And mostly it's good and when it's not, the moderators will handle it.

Sorry to hear that you are leaving! I am an SSR owner and at times, I too have felt the wind being knocked out of my sail because of comments made by others. Having read enough posts now--I know that every resort receives its fair share of bashing. BCV went through it recently. Tomorrow it will be another resort. People bash the other resorts to make themselves feel better about their home resort/choice/purchase. :rolleyes1 SSR is a beautiful resort! Congratulations on your purchase!!!!!!!!!!

hey there! don't let the turkeys get ya down!! no matter what onsite dvc resort you own, you will still get to experience that magical feeling when you drive under that "welcome to walt disney world" sign and KNOWING that you are at home in a truly wonderful place, WDW.

and if you have children (or plan on it), do you realize that by owning at an onsite dvc resort, you will have become a hero to them? too many kids in my neighborhood (whose parents are white-collared, well-salaried, but tight-fisted when it comes to vacationing) are being cheated out of their WDW memories.

i'm convinced that the magic lies in just being there <anywhere!> in WDW. 7 or 8 yrs ago, during some financially challenging times, we opted for a stay at All Stars instead of the usual CR/Poly. yah, we missed the monorail, being close to MK, etc. but still... the theming, the music, the CMs.. it (WDW) is just a very special place no matter what onsite hotel you stay at.

fwiw, i personally find DD to be a very desirable area of WDW, so SSR is a good vacation investment IMHO.

I haven't stayed "home" yet, but part of what I liked about SSR was that it was away from the frenetic energy of the parks. I like that it's kind of it's own little world. Being a DVC member means that I will be going to the World more often, :cool1: and I can stop the commando touring that left me more tired after my vacation than before I left. I know that I can skip a ride or an attraction on one trip because I'll be back in 6 months or a year and I can do it then. For example, I stayed 2 nights at OKW in June and it was REALLY HOT. I went to the parks, but only stayed a few hours, then went back to the resort in the afternoons until 6 or so and went back for the night. I would never have done that before I joined DVC. I would have plodded through the parks, hot and sweaty and really not enjoying it all that much. Knowing that I would be back in November allowed me to enjoy the pool at the resort, the hot tub in my bathroom and the balcony overlooking the golf course. I was "home", and I was relaxed.

Everyone here knows how much I love SSR, but whenever I post positive things I would get some of the most nasty email and private messages you ever read, but I learned how to just Delete. There are hundreds of disers so read the pos and ignore the neg. Like someone said ,there is going to be alot more SSR owners, so one day we will own these boards :rotfl2:

Congratulations on your purchase! If you and your family are happy that is all that matters. FWIW, occupancy on this board can get a little, ok a lot, crazy. Bottom line is that if MS allows it (like 5 in a 1 bdr) than they allow it, period. :)
Also, I thought your name tag comment was pretty funny. Have fun and have great trips!

All boards on the Dis can get crazy from time to time. Last week a thread on the restaurant board got locked because some posters thought children should be banned from signature restaurants or made to eat seperately from their parents in a different section of the restaurant and about a hundred different posters had their OWN ideas. Reading others opinions is what makes the Dis fun for me. :wave2:
