It's done!
What a relief of stress it is to be able to say that!
Well, we finished cleaning the apartment in Tallahassee and packed our stuff into our cars on Friday night. It was very odd sleeping that night, as we simply slept on our futon mattress in the middle of the living room, with no TV to lull us to sleep. I tried to get to sleep early, but it seemed that the Friday night partyers were making sure we didn't sleep restfully! Plus DH had to check on the cars every fifteen minutes!
Anyway, after about 3 hours of sleep, we got up at 3 am...after doing a final check of the place and packing our last minute stuff, we hit the road at about 4:30.
The only change in plan came with the cat. DH and I had been disagreeing as to how we should transport her...I was gung-ho for the carrier, for her safety, her thought she should be free in the car. Well, once we got her in the car in her carrier, we could tell she was very uncomfortable and more scared than I've seen...so we decided to try his plan. Amazingly, she either sat in the passenger seat or on the passenger floorboards the whole trip, and she barely cried. I know I will get some flames for what we did, but this seemed to be the best thing for this particular kitty.
Anyway, after an eight hour drive, and one quick stop at Cracker Barrel before the sun rose (don't want kitty getting hot in the car) we arrived in S. Florida, Delray Beach to be exact. Our apartment is great, it has a view of a lake. Everything has gone super-smoothly since we've been here, thank goodness.
Just wanted to let everyone know whom I'd mentioned it to. No more "curling up in a ball" feelings!
And a word of advice: if you're planning on moving anytime soon, start throwing out/donating your old stuff ASAP! I couldn't believe how much stuff we had that we just didn't need, couldn't use, or something like that. I took nearly eight bags of clothes to Goodwill!
Very glad it's all over!
