Look what I adopted today:
He's still a baby and I have to keep him for a year before I get his ownership papers. He is from an extremely isolated herd of wild horses located in Western AZ. His herd has been genetically linked to Iberian Sorraia horses (I know this all sounds like ridiculous gobbledygook). You know the Lascaux cro-magnon cave paintings of horses??? Well -- the Sorraia horse is believed to be a living remnant (or at least the closest living relative of these prehistoric horses. They are very rare and there is an active ongoing effort to preserve these genetics. After DNA testing, I will probably try to sell him to the folks doing this.
I can still back out if it turns out he's nasty mean (I sorta suspect he won't be -- just look at that sweet lil face)
I think I'm gonna call him Tater.

or I'd have to make some very significant changes to my facilities. I like being able to turn my horses loose in the yard to dink around doing happy little horsey/herbivore things and that's really not an option with a stallion. I'm sure I'll be blinking back a tear or two when the time comes, but if he turns out to be as nice a horse as I think he might, he'll be tons better off at dedicated breeder's farm/ranch. On the other hand if he grows up ugly, it'll be snip, snip and my grand-kids will have another pony-ride option.
I bet you're going to have fun with him.
