I am now nervous about the crowds in May...

Last year when we decided to go in May (7-14) everyone said it was a great time to go, low crowds not too too hot etc. From what I have been reading it seems so many people are going at that time. I hope we did not make a mistake, although I was unaware at the time about the 50 year celebration. Lets hope for the best I guess...

Same here..were hoping to miss crowds. However, there will still be lots, if not most schools in session, so I think it wont be too bad. Since the Celebration is not only in May and lasts over a year, I am keeping my fingers crossed that it wont be too bad. At least I am trying to convince myself of this :)

I look at it this way. It's WDW. It will be crowded. Period. If you go with that expectation you'll be able to handle any situation! :cool1:

Usually it is an awesome time to go, but you have to remember that this year the kick off for the 50th Anniversary celebration will have just started on the 5th, there are new attractions opening, it will be during the Flower and Garden Festival as well as Star Wars weekends, and Mother's Day falls in that time, as well.

Just plan accordingly. Hopefully, the parks will be open longer and with the addition of the EMH at night, it should be easier for you, if you are staying onsite. Take advantage of those fastpasses.

This is an 18 month celebration, so I would think that the parks will be way more crowded than we have become accustomed to in the past 4 years as more people are comfortable with traveling and everyone LOVES a Disney celebration!

May could be more crowded this year but then again it will probably be more crowded all year long. I don't know why folks would want to go in May just because the celebration kicks off then when they have 18 months to see it. I mean the person who would normally vacation in the summer or spring break or October, etc.

Nikki,

I posted the same thing just this last week! Are you travelling with kids? I mentioned that I felt bad taking my kids out of school in May, especially since it seems like it could be potentially as busy as Spring Break. I also had heard from some of my friends & family that when they went in May it wasn't busy.

There are still plenty of hotel rooms available if that gives you any consolation. I also try to remind myself that the people who frequent these boards may not be representative of the average WDW visitors.

Thanks Violet... I feel better with your outlook... we are usually "fall" travelers, but now that the kids are getting older (9y/o) I rather take them out of school near the end of the year than the beginning. We can take a deep breath and hope it will be great, just like all our trips to Disney!

This is my first time going in May....I think anyway, can't remember I have been every Month so far, except for July! I am hoping it won't be too crowded, but, if it is, I know how to use Fastpass and get there EARLY!

Just assume there will be crowds and plan, plan, plan. Get to the parks early, fast pass, PS etc. Be prepared for crowds, and if it's not too crowded you'll be pleasantly surprised.

We moved to Florida last June and bought AP's right away and have since been there every month except this month and October. The only uncrowded time was in September right after Hurricane Francis when we took an impromptu trip due to school being canceled and having no electricity. We did the same forHurricane Jeanne later in Sept, but it was crowded again.

We always go in May (Memorial Day weekend). I know we are crazy, but we usually go May 28- the following Friday. The crowds are pretty bad that Saturday, Sunday and Monday (Memorial Day), but after Memorial Day, the crowds are really not bad at all. But this year may be different, I am expecting crowds like always. I have noticied that the parks dont really seem to get crowded until close to the noon hour. I guess everyone sleeps in since its vacation. :bounce:

Not me! I am up everyday at 2:30am to get to work at 4am so, if I sleep till 6:00am thats enough for me! ;) Guess thats why I get the most out of Extra Magic Hour! :Pinkbounc
