Congratulations! That is a great shot, it's no surprise that they liked it.

I knew Pentax had set up such a gallery a few months ago but I admit that I never even got around to looking at it... not bad, I'll have to snoop around it a little.

I don't know if I will ever get another accepted considering most of my shots are at WDW. For some reason, they shot all those down the quickest. Who knows, maybe they have some fear of liability from the Mouse law office.

Well, they did allow the self-portait shot from there.

But yeah, there may be concerns about that, as the site is basically an advertisement for using Pentax products, and Disney may not want to be a part of that (without being paid, at least!) They may not realize that your HM shot is from WDW.

The reviewers do not have to approve your artist picture, so they might never look for something like that.

You certainly deserve it more than me! Now that I have my K-x, maybe I will get interested in submitting more again. I think the rules now allow for special effects as long as they were done in camera.

The story on that shot was that Hot Wheels had a 40th anniversary display at the 2008 Watkins Glen Vintage Races, including some large-scale mockups next to the final Hot Wheels car. That shot features the Hot Wheels version in the foreground and the mockup in the background. There are more photos of them here and on the following page, including a couple other shots of the orange Lotus that is in the gallery photo. Oh, and all non-Pentax lenses just get marked as "other" but that was shot with my Lester A Dine 105mm F2.8 macro. Love that lens!

Thanks but hey, I honestly didn't expect any of them to get in but I figured what the heck, and managed to get one accepted in my first submission of ten. I was quite surprised! It's hard to pick out favorite shots to submit, and I've found that what I like is often not what others like (as I've usually find when I put a non-fisheye shot in the weekly contest!)...

As for the rules, I think you're right, I think you can use the various in-camera effects of the DSLRs, like HDR and so on.

Now, if I could get a shot in from my Auto 110, I'll really be proud!

You have to go to Site Tools, then Contact Us, and ask for an invitation. You should then get your invite within a few days with further instructions.

I assume they do it this way so that it's clear (in case the need to approval didn't make it obvious enough) that this is not like another Smugmug or Flickr or whatever.
