posted, but I need advice. This has been discussed before, but I am still not sure what to do. I am taking my kids to Disney in Dec from the 9th - 20th. We are leaving on the 6th at night because we are driving down. My kids are missing 10 days of school. They go to private school so I am not sure if thats where the difference is, but there school was fine with us taking the timefor a family vacation. They said as long as they take the work with them and they will be assigned a project to do while on the trip.
On the other hand we want to take my dh's 2 little half sisters they are 9 and 10 and have never been on a vacation and their family is poor and will probably never be able to go to disney. Their school has a policy where if a child misses more than 5 consecutive days the child loses its place and will have to reregister. Had anyone gone through this. Is there a way around it. They are very bright girls and have no trouble keeping up in school. We would love to surprise them and be able to take them. Any suggestions or advice?? We definitely do not want to go Christmas week.

Has anyone gone into the school to talk to the teacher and principal about it? Sometime exceptions can be made if you give them enough notice to prepare work to take with them.

As the previous poster mentioned, I would definitely talk to the teacher and principal. Try talking to the principal NOW (send a note/letter and then follow-up with a phone call) and then in September, arrange a meeting with the girls new teachers and another one with the principal. You'll be giving them more than enough notice and hopefully they'll be understanding. Best of luck! :)
