My motherwas a stay at home mom for most of our lives, until, when I was twelve, my dad had a heart attack and was out of work for a long time as a result. Since she had been out of the "office" work world for awhile, and computers had since taken over, she could not get a job like that, so she took a job at Winn Dixie (a grocery store if you're not familiar w/ it) in the deli.

She worked their for fourteen years...up until December 20th of last year.

She just told me all this today, as she has gotten a new job now, and didn't want to worry me before Christmas. Anyway, they fired her. I don't understand for sure why. But about a month before, she fell at work, and had to go to the dr., where she found out she had dangerously high blood pressure. Since then, she's had to take it easy, take a bit of sick time, and has not been able to work as much as she used to.

She's also older, 58, and while that is by no means old, she does not have the energy she used to. She probably wasn't getting everything done as quickly as they wanted it.

It makes me mad, that a company would just cut her like that, not only after fourteen years, but also five days before Christmas! I am convinced that her health had to play a role in this, even though they would never say that.

Anyway, Hopefully it will turn into a blessing, as she is working in the deli of another store now, and is far less stressed out...its a much friendlier environment with more employees (ie the burden of everything doesn't fall all on her.)

I'm just sad that my mom had to go through this.

I'm sorry your mother had to experience this, life just isn't fair sometimes :(

Give her a {{{HUG}}} from me, I'm glad she has a less stressful job now :)

sounds like a mom - didn't want to worry you...

That doesn't seem fair - but it's behind her now. Here's hoping that this job is better for her.

Sorry this happened to your mom....but glad to hear she landed on her feet....

That is too bad. Has your MOm considered getting a job in food services in a school system. They are always looking for people. She would have shorter hours, maybe good benefits and plenty of time off.

Sorry your Mom had to go through that.

I think Kallison gave a great suggestion!!

{{{{HUGS}}}} Maybe things will work out for the best for her. Please keep us posted on how she likes her new job.

Many prayers that your Mom will recove her health & find a much BETTER job!
