I think I have New Toy Syndrom- because I can't seem to get this lens off my camera for very long. ;)

Took the kids and the new 50mm f1.2 to the county fair tonight- #1 @ f4- the rest are wide open.

Very nice series Jeff. :thumbsup2 Where were these taken?

Awesome pictures Jeff!! I always enjoy seeing your photos ... especially when you get a new toy ... you never disappoint with great ones right out of the box.

f/1.2 is loving you too! Nice job, Jeff! :thumbsup2

I especially like the carousel pic and the bokeh in the second fence pic.

Show off ;)

Very nice pics. I really like the color in all of them and the bokeh, well...what's not to like?? :thumbsup2

*repeats over and over to self: "I do not need this lens, I do NOT need this lens!"*

Beautiful! Love the ferris wheel shots!

Looks like the new glass is a keeper and won't show up on NC/FS anytime soon. Nice work, as expected, and I'm sure it is contributing to multiple cases of NAS.

Trust me, the only thing that has kept me from lusting over this lens (to the point of purchase anyway) is the fact that it won't meter with the D90. :sad2: I can deal with manually focusing (in fact, I kind of like it) but I'm not so sure I'd be able to deal with guessing the correct aperture and shutter speed in M mode to get the proper exposure in most situations just yet.

Ah, good point, yet I don't find myself cured....:lmao:

Jeff, had a look at your EXIF (I stalk your EXIF when you post, did you know that?) 200 ISO? WOW! Was it full dark when you shot these? Or was there plenty of light to help out? Hope I don't sound stupid, just trying to put it all together. I've learned a lot just by looking at people's settings.

Oh man that lens is awesome. I love:lovestruc the bokeh! I really want one and I don't even care that it won't meter w/ the D90! :rotfl:I'm thinking it'll be fine for the next time I upgrade my camera! :lmao: And the lens will only go up in price, right? :rolleyes1 ;)

Looks like a fun lens! The bokeh is very nice except on the lights... I don't like the strong halo on the circle of confusion at f/1.2.. does that get better above 1.2?

No fair, just when you think you have everything you need...Jeff, you come along and show me something else I *need*. ;)

Every one of those shots is a winner! You're going to have ALL of us wanting one of those!

Well, as you know, he has already caused me to bite the forbidden fruit. I have the day off tomorrow and hope to go out and try this puppy out.

Jeff as always good stuff! I agree that I think this will spend a lot of time on my camera! Is it not great to remember the old style feel of that lens! It just feels like real lens. Dejavu all over again!

Thanks for feeding my NAS.

I am kind of surprised by the shots you're getting, as the DoF looks much too large to be F1.2, compared to what I've been getting with my F1.2. Plus, with a full-frame, you should be getting what would appear to be even less DoF.

Of course, that's probably because so far, I've only been able to use mine in close indoors photos, where I am near as close as I can focus it, to make the DoF absolutely razor-thin. The snowstorm and freezing temperatures and the fact that my wife has been busy with stuff leaving me alone at home with a hyper 4-year-old means that I have not been able to do any real playing yet. Quite frankly, I don't know how any parent finds time to do anything, at least not in two-income households. I'm lucky if I find time to blow my nose!

When I'm talking thin DoF, that means not even enough to keep all of Olive Oyl in focus...

Here's Jack eating some broccoli (ugh! but he likes it), there's one tiny sliver of the broccoli where it's razor-sharp focus, then quickly going to bokeh.

This is not quite as extreme in terms of DoF; taken in an extremely dark room. I was able to get away with 1600 ISO and 1/10th at F1.2.

Now that my Katz Eye is calibrated properly and hopefully we'll start to see some better weather soon, I hope that I'll get a chance to get some better shots out of it. I actually will probably be heading up to Niagara Falls briefly in a couple weeks and maybe again next month...

Good question- I don't know. I do not really find it all that objectionable but next time I have it out I will take a few test shots and see.

I agree- up close there is not much to work with. ;)
