Coming from a person with 52 zombie/walking dead movies

zombies don't shy from light, they are ATTRACTED to it.
Zombies are creatures of base instinct, they do not plan (even with the Romero series the zombies planning skills are on the low end).
Zombies don't sleep.

I think it's pretty much cut and dry..

(for the record, i believe they are just mutants, affected by the medicine, and able to be medically treated/cured depending on the ending you saw)

Neither. The creatures do not fit the description of either zombies (the dead walking among us who eat human flesh) or vampires (the undead who thirst for blood).

I have a friend who said the same thing. I personally didn't care for the movie. Thought it was a little to creepy for me.

vampires. I am watching it right now on TNT channel and I pulled up the info on it and it says vampires, although I didn't think they were vampires either but that is what it says.

Have the book in my home library.
Written by Richard Matheson in 1954.
Last man on earth "Robert Neville" fights humans who were affected by plague that turned them into Vampires.
The book is fabulous.
Much, much better then any of the movies that tried to match the book.

Well, when I first saw the movie all I could think was he could really use Buffys help.

In the written story they are Vampires. However, they are never explicitly called the "v" word. The novella is famous for being very influential vampire lore that never called its beasts vampires. The descriptions of their behavior were enough to denote that they're not zombies.

Oh, I think I know the one you're talking about. As I was watching it in the theatre with my father and aunt, I could see it coming. I told them, "if ... happens, I'm walking out." As soon as it was obvious, I walked out of the theatre and did not watch it again until I had read the entire synopsis on IMDB so I could prepare myself. Unfortunately, I could see myself in that particular situation very easily.
