Just found out our Conference in June is at the Contemporary Resort instead of the Yacht Club like last time. I was really hoping for they YC again. I have only been through the CR on the monorail...but it didn't look that appealing to me. Can I get some input on if we are going to enjoy this resort as much as the YC? It will be My dh, me, dd (14), ds (5), dd (2)...and then my sisters family with 3 children, my parents, and my cousin with 2 children.

Well the Cont rooms just went under rehab and they are gorgeous. I can't find the link right now so hopefully someone will help me out.

Plus with younger children you are sooooo close the the MK and may even have an MK view depending on where you are at.

You will be super close to Chef Mickey's, just a monorail hop away from Epcot and MK (if you don't take the 4 minutes to walk there) and be able to sit on the beach and watch the electrical parade. Get a view of the fireworks from MK.

I would be excited, besides it something new and different to try.

We stayed at the Contemporary (14th Floor) and it easily became one of our favorite resorts! Albeit we were staying in concierge with a great view...but the rest of the resort is spectacular!

You won't be disappointed, especially with a Tower room facing MK. :3dglasses

Hi - do you know when the dates are of the convention? Just wondering if they're going to coincide with our trip in June 2006.

Thanks - Cindy

I believe we will be there June 17th - 24th. It isn't a huge convention that takes over the whole place or anything....so I wouldn't be too worried if we are there the same time.

When the Magic Kingdom closes at night, there is NOTHING like walking past all the people in the bus and monorail lines, and strolling to your room at the Contemporary! It is a 5 minute walk. Downside, pool isn't such a great thing, not well themed compared to the other deluxes, especially the YC.

I would keep in mind the conference is at DISNEY!!!! Just think it could be in pick a town you really don't want to go to much less take your family to!

Look at it as an opportunity to explore another hotel.

I know you enjoyed the Yacht Club but it's good to try different Disney resorts to find the one you really like. My DH goes every year and has stayed at different ones each time just to be able to try them all. He just got back from the YC and last year he stayed BC and he said he liked BC better. Conventions will also almost always coincide with someone's vacation since conventions run year round there. The one my DH just got back from he said the parks were packed. He were there in August and he said this crowd didn't seem any different.
What I like about the CR is that it's a monorail resort which is really nice.
Look at it as a change and enjoy!

I love the CR! Every time I step off the monorail I feel a spark of excitement and anticipation! I think it's a fun resort! :flower:

I work at a convention center in a town you'd not normally pick as a hopping vacation location. It's a nice place, and we actually do pretty well for the sole reason of: You're there to attend the convention and learn something. Many of the companies we deal with have realized that at Golf resorts and places like Disney their employees (for whom they're shelling out decent amounts of money) are ... distracted. Go figure. It seems they have a problem seperating work and play! One employer went so far as to quiz their employees following such a gathering and the failure rate was amazing. If it's a "congratulatory gathering" (Your company hit its sales goals, additional motivational experience, etc) then Disney or other locations are good. Unfortunately, if it's a learning experience they want, it not be the best choice.

:earboy2:  :rotfl2: It will be our first time to stay there next June - we're very excited about being so close to the MK - DH isn't though... he'd rather be over by Epcot.

Oh well, those of us who do the planning get to make the BIG decisions!!!!!!

You guys are right...it is still at Disney. I just really liked the fact of being right by EPCOT and you could walk over to Boardwalk. The only other resort I have stayed at onsite is the Carribean Beach Resort...and it was nice, just not as nice or convenient. I didn't realize there was so much right there at CR until I started looking around on here. I am sure it will be just as good. I also really liked the pool area at YC. It is really nice when you have small children...they can play in the sand and water at the same time and they also have a nice small waterslide for them. I know we'll be just as happy right by MK because they really will like MK better then EPCOT. Our conference is also pretty laid back...it isn't to learn, learn, learn....it is also to have fun...and we pay for it all (being a franchise) so it isn't like they foot the bill for us. They just try to pick an area that is family oriented somewhere in the country so you can make it your family vacation also....if you can say Vegas is family oriented :rotfl2: ??? but usually that is what they try to plan.

While I know that the YC has perhaps the best swimming area of all the WDW resorts, my kids loved the sand area at the CR, which was right next to the pool. You will have a great time wherever you're at! :flower:

We also stayed at CR w/my spouse during a "convention." I really, really enjoyed our stay there. If the tower room renovations were going to be completed by January we would be staying at CR again, by choice ;) and I LOVE the EPCOT resort area!!

The rooms at CR are LARGE. Convienent walking to and from MK is de-lightful. We were there in July and used the pool daily. We also took the opportunity to eat at Chef MIckey's a couple of times --- usually we just hit it once a trip.

It turned out to be a great trip, actually -- a bit more laid back than our Disney trips usually are.

So what you're saying is, "If you want a boring place, come to Akron!" No arguments there. And I speak from experience -- lived in Cleveland Heights for 3 years in the late 90's, consulted 3 days a week throughout Summit County with a home base in Cuyahoga Falls. I have no problems with Akron (I even went to E.J. Thomas Hall twice, for Rent and a Matchbox20 concert), but I agree that there's not a lot to lure people into playing hooky from their conventions and conferences.
