as I was last year when we stayed at the Grand Floridian! Seriously! Of course, DBIL and new DSIL are coming with us and we are ecstatic! We left the hotel choice up to them. So, knowing my DH and DBIL, I am looking for names and descriptions of some yummy poolside drinks.

You will have alot of fun at POP. I was really leary about staying there our first time but we had a blast! So much so that I went back just a few months later. I didn't drink there but I did hear that they serve a pretty good Mojito at the pool bar.

Mojito

1.5 oz Rum
12 fresh spearmint leaves
1/2 lime
7 oz club soda
2 tbsp. simple syrup
(or 4 tsp. sugar)

BTW, one of my favorite restaurants in the world was in Kenner. I used to always go to LeParvenu when we were in NOLA. I had heard that it was taken out with Katrina :sad1: Did it ever reopen?

I had a really neat drink (that kinda knocked me off my feet) the 1st night we got there. I usually drink wine, but I wanted to try something different that glowed. All I remember is that it was banana and had vodka. OMG. Glad I wasn't at a park! I love the cubes though!

And the Pop was a lot of fun. It totally has its own thing going on.

If I remember correctly, that restaurant is in the Rivertown section, correct? I went on a field trip with my 1st graders in March and I saw the restaurant- it looked like it was still up and running. The areas close to the river actually fared pretty well in Katrina b/c of being on higher ground. Hmmmm...I'm curious now.

BTW, the mojito and the banana vodka thingy sound like my kind of drinks!! Thanks!

Thanks for the update! You are correct about the location. It really is a great restaurant and if you are looking for a nice romantic meal it is great place to go (not that there is any shortage of those in your area.) I'm really glad to hear that it is (probably) still up and running. I hope to get back to the area really soon!

No, we are going in Feb. 2008 ~ We always try to escape Mardi Gras! It's hard right now, though, because we are all out of school and I have severe vacation envy!

If you are referring to the GF trip, it was wonderful. However, I will never, EVER go to WDW during Presidents' Week again!!!!

please don't go thinking that Pop is just a little different than the GF - it is a LOT.

the guests to CM number are highly different. far less CM per person here.

there are a bunch of people here.

Pop has 2,880 - I think GF has 700 rooms. GF is in more space than Pop. So you get the ideal.

I dearly love Pop. but some people seem to think it will feel more like a deluxe resort than it possible can.

but for it is - IT IS THE BEST!!!

I like lakeside in the 50's.

The Pop's CMs also seem to be a tad-less, um... trained. OK - the short version - it looks like the value resorts train the new CMs. So they stick to the rules 100% or they have no idea what the rules are. lol. Whether or not that is accurate is beyond me, but based on our trip, that is what it looked like.

The Pop is FUN. The deluxes are posh. Different trip w/ a different feel.

Just remember it's Disney! And anything at Disney can't be all that bad!

We actually stayed for 2 nights at Pop in 2005. We spent 7 nights @ ASMo and then had to book an additional 2 nights at Pop b/c of Hurricane Rita. However, by this time we had been away from home for almost a month and we were ready to leave! We didn't explore Pop at all, didn't go to the food court, arcade, etc.

The GF is a beautiful hotel, but in all honesty I think it was my kids' least favorite resort. The loved the turndown service & the beach. However, their favorite is either CBR or ASMo. They love arcades, food courts, etc. and the GF did not have exciting ones.

So- I know the rooms will be small, we will not receive H2O toiletries, no turndown service, etc. BUT- I'll be in Disney!!! My kids will have a fun food court, awesome arcade, and larger than life icons. They're happy=Mom & Dad happy!

hey that is a great attitude!!!

I think the problem is one I mentioned - a few CM and a bunch of guests.

most of the CM pop I meet and talked too came from - Polyn, Gf, OKW, BWV, BC one came from ASMu. they wanted to do something different. at Pop because they are bunch less CM they can.

the only thing I noticed was with older adults they were still using the building number - not the ICON. when you are talking about older adults (and I am one) you are talking someone who can become easily confused and in some cases need a little more instruction. So why they can't use the ICON - telling them they are in building 1 in Pop or in Lady's building - is a big difference...

This is exactly why we're headed back to the value resorts after staying in a deluxe. Granted, CR is POSHPOSHPOSH but we didn't feel like it has the hustle and bustle that we've grown accustomed to in a Disney resort.

DH and my boys love the food courts in the values and I just love how it's always active. This year we're bumping up to two rooms though, we've just gotten too big to share one anymore. So that should be a new experience.

I had written off the values after a disappointing stay at AS Sports, but after seeing the pics of POP on DIS, I am looking forward to giving Pop a try! Have a great time!

Good news! POP does have H2O toiletries, just not as many!

We had shampoo and shower gel, I think..oh, and a bar of soap for the sink and one for the shower :)

Have fun planning!

Are you serious???? Even better! What about the lotion/body butter? That was to die for!

You are going to need those drinks to convince yourself that POP is as good as GF. You might need some weed on top of that to drown out the noise from Oceola Parkway and the beautiful view of the Bonnet Creek timeshares that peek over the trees bordering POP. :rotfl2:

We stayed at POP in 2005, and I don't recall hearing any noise from the Oceola Parkway. Also, never noticed the Bonnet Creek timeshares either, but then again we were only in our rooms in the evening. :)
