This past week has been one of incredible joy mixed in with some real life trauma. My daughter who was to deliver her second child ended up going back and forth to the hospital 3 times with what she thought was the real thing only to be sent home telling her she was not ready.
Anyway....on April 29, after laboring at home for almost 2 full weeks, and I am telling you they were painful contractions, my little granddaughter decided she was coming into this world when she was darn good and ready. The only thing was she did not allow her Mommy to get to the hospital for the delivery. Her birth made the second page of the Boston Herald and she was delivered skillfully by Boston EMT's in her very own upstairs bathroom.... I must admit I aged 100 years getting there in time to grab my grandson from the birth scene and let the EMT's in the door and hear my granddaughter cry as she was born in her own house... So.. please forgive my absence, I have been needed elsewhere....this has been going on for almost a month...my grandson was 7 weeks early.. my new granddaughter came one day before her due date.. Add this into caring for Tom, who is beaming with pride with the birth of his second grandchild and his first granddaughter.. he is the Dad of three daughters, it has been a bit busy for us all.
I am blessed, she is healthy, but geez, it was traumatic for me and I am pretty resilient. I guess the story made the Channel 7 news in Boston, I did not hear it as of course I was busy taking care of my wonderful grandson and visiting my new granddaughter in the hospital.. oh yeah, the EMT's took her to the hospital where the obstetrician was waiting to care for my daughter after she birthed her daughter at home with her husband by her side..
Kudos to the Boston EMT's who I understand are battling the Fire Department Unions to keep their job..they are definitely needed as there is plenty of work in a city the size of Boston. The EMT who assisted in her delivery, it was his first delivery and his birthday... Happy belated Birthday Chris and thank you.
