So, this past week, we were fortunate enough to stay in a Grand Villa at SSR for our DD's 21st birthday. We got the large villa due to the number of friends she was bringing. I had thought, well, maybe it would be better to do a 2-bedroom and a studio, or maybe 2 2-bedroom villas for the 12 of us, but honestly, the Grand Villa was simply amazing. It was really nice to have everyone together, and what really worked well was having the adults on the ground floor and DD and her friends up on the second floor, complete with their own separate entry. That was way more useful than I had imagined.

We had stayed in Grand Villas a couple times before, once at Pre-refurbed SSR for a couple of nights and once at RIV for 3 nights. However, the SSR Renovated Grand Villa was absolutely incredible and is now one of my favorite stays we've had at DVC (sorry RIV fans, I liked the renovated SSR GV better!). I still can't get over how night and day different SSR is since the renovation.

Mousekeeping brought in some amazing surprises on Trash and Towel day for DD's birthday (we had a banner on the door - with painters tape, so no damage :) ) Already planning on another visit. Also, the point charts on SSR GV's are fairly friendly, so that helps. OKW's are more friendly, but DW had a knee replacement a few months back and I wanted a property that had elevator access for her. As she gets better and better with mobility, we may also try OKW.

Another unexpected plus was just how well you can see the drone show from SSR. We watched it a couple nights and it really is cool. I do wish that they piped the music in on the SSR side, though. Really like the Paddock locations near the Paddock pool. As we were 12 people, we didn't use the car this trip and actually used the buses for the park. Had no issues at all, though we don't do rope drop.

But, again, the major thing, as with 1 and 2 bedrooms is that kitchen. We cooked every night and really made use of the kitchen facilities. It makes the trip so much easier for large parties when you can do spaghetti or tacos or hot dogs, etc. Simple things, but sure did save a bunch of money rather than eating on property (which, to be fair, we did some as well, but to illustrate, DD's Le Cellier birthday meal was $140, just for her). Cooking in the room, even if it's just part of the time, sure saves so much money. Also, it was really nice to have snacks, etc. We also enjoyed the large table for meals/games.

Man, it's going to be hard to go back to a studio... Fortunately, next two stays are at the FW Cabins which have a kitchen :)

2 years ago, My sister and her family came to Disney with my wife and I and I offered to cover a 2-bedroom villa with my points. At the time, she didn't seem overly impressed and figured that would be the last time.

This year, they went down and stayed at the Caribbean Beach. After their 1st day, I got texts from all of them about how I have ruined staying at non-dvc resorts for them and that they had an appointment to meet with a DVC agent.

They haven't bought in yet, but are planning on it. They are working the finances to make it work.

Love this!

We are booking the SSR GV next summer for a party of 10. Will be staying 4 nights there followed by 4 nights at CCV Gv, can’t wait to have everyone together for the whole trip!
Why the switch if you don't mind me asking. With that large of a party, resort switch day will not be fun. Have you thought about just doing all SSR or all CCV?

I’d happily do the whole time at SSR, but my sister wants to experience other resorts and I also want to try out the CCV GV (but don’t have enough home resort points to cover the full 8 nights at CCV… granted we may be able to use other points at the 7 month mark, but I’d rather have the certainty at 11 months).

It’s 3 separate families, so no one has too many kids to look after.. although I do have visions of a home alone type situation trying to organise this vacation 😂

My completely uneducated guess is that you could move all 8 nights to CCV at 7 months should you desire, though that will definitely eat away much more at your points.

My dream is to stay with my family in a Grand Villa!

What sections and buildings are the GV located in and do you know how many there are?

I just looked at the points for September 2025, GVs are only 63 points a night Sun-Thur!! That's fantastic

Thanks :earsgirl:

We did the SSR GV last July (‘23) and a 1br with three families for our boys HS graduation. Such a great trip. Thanks for the jolt of memories🥰

There are two grand villas in each building. They will be x207, x607, x241, or x641 depending on your building numbering.

Another fan of the full kitchen in DVC villas. We enjoy WDW dining, but sometimes it's nice to grab a snack or a small meal back at the room. Not to sound cheap, but our party is often 4 adults, two tweens, and two of the adults are known to enjoy a cocktail or two and that adds up real fast at WDW eateries.

If you really want to knock yourself out, get a tour of the Grand Villa at Aulani. It is a jaw-dropper.

Oh, if you haven't stayed in the CCV GV yet, you are going to LOVE it. I still love the Cabins more in some ways, but of course they sleep 8 only 5 in bedrooms, so the GV is so much nicer. We stayed in it with my BFF, her hubby, our godson, and our two boys, and the third bedroom is actually off behind the dining room in its own area, near to a private entrance, so it gave them their own space while having the master bedroom and the boys bedroom right near each other.

I so hear you about this!! We thought we were spoiled enough by starting to stay in 2 BRs rather than 1BRs. The first time we did it, my oldest son was like "Mom, isn't that...excessive? We can just sleep in the living room like we always do." Love that my son is as frugal on points and money as I am. ;-)

But then we did a stay over Thanksgiving with my SIL and her family, 10 of us in a Grand Villa at Jambo House, and we were spoiled for life. The kitchen was huge and perfect, because we DID make Thanksgiving dinner together, and we loved it so much, we've turned it into a tradition of doing Thanksgiving at WDW every other year. Though the following year we got the CCV Cabin for our "room" and for the central gathering area, and got everyone else studios at BRV. But we also had 16 people that year, so we couldn't all fit in one grand villa!

I've told DH I want to try ALL the Grand Villas. To date, we've only done AKV Jambo GV (twice; wanted Kidani on the second but couldn't get it), CCV GV, and BLT GV Theme Park View. We've also stayed in the CCV Cabins and the Bungalows.

Next year for 2 nights after our Treasure cruise, I have 2 GVs held, because I cannot decide which one to do. I was all set on doing the Old Key West Grand Villa because it was so cheap on points and because we don't plan on going into the parks -- my youngest wants to hang with his cousins, and so it seemed the perfect time to try out Old Key West.

However, the Grand Villa at the Boardwalk was also somehow available for those exact 2 nights, so I've snagged it, and am currently trying to make up my mind which one to stay at with our family and our SIL and family. (I had debated the VGF Grand Villa, but wow so many points, so I was kind of glad it was gone at the 7 month mark so I didn't need to agonize on that decision!). Decisions, decisions!

The full kitchens make it so worth it. I like the extra space, and the W/D is nice, but the kitchens are often our motivation, especially for longer stays, as we make use of it for breakfast, snacks, and some dinners (and sometimes lunch). It saves us a ton of money which we can use for other things, like the holiday parties and events.

I've seen the videos but would love to see it in person! I'm not sure I'll ever have enough people coming out to Aulani to justify getting it, but I may have to try 1 night some day just to be able to check off staying at every GV. ;-)
