I Am Back from a Pop/Poly Split Stay...

Isn't this is what the resorts board is for in part, for people to post their personal experiences at resorts for the benefit of others. I can't believe so many people are so thin-skinned or dependent upon the opinions of others (a stranger!) that they take someones dislike of a HOTEL as a personal slam. Personally, I am staying at a hotel I've never stayed in next May. I look forward to all the MANY different opinions. Interestingly enough, the OP is also posting a positive review on Poly when many bad Poly things have recently been reported. Should those with negative experiences take it personally that the OP contradicts that? Of course not. It gives me a well rounded view. I would think that others would want to be as educated about where they are planning to spend so much money.

OP, glad you enjoyed your stay at Poly.

And for the record, I have never stayed at a deluxe, and DH and I loathed Pop during what was a slow January time. In fact, we also stayed in the 50's building facing the parking lot (which we wanted over a pool view b/c we feared all the comments about others late hours at the pools). I knew going in what the rooms looked like - could handle that. I knew it got crowded and there wasn't anything fancy about the place. But the insane noise at all hours was horrible. We barely got any sleep - and DH normally sleeps like the dead. We even drove to the store to buy a fan for noise blocking and that didn't do a thing to block the slamming, running, yelling. Though I love WDW, yes I would RATHER stay at home than stay several sleepless night at POP. We were dead on our feet during most of the trip, how fun is that? I accept that others have different experiences, and kudos for them. I certainly wish I'd enjoyed it given the affordable price, but I wasn't so lucky. Que sara sara.

I always keep in mind when I read anything negative that the words are from one persons experience, and that is what their opinion is based on.
Plain and simple....to me anyway...I really think MOST of the time people are sharing their experiences.....maybe once in awhile you get someone who likes to "stir the pot"...you may notice those folks never, ever return to the thread they started and it has gone to to 5 pages or more of debating what they claimed.
I personally enjoyed my resort stay at POP...with my DD10 celebrating her b day....who I choose POP for a family week vacation...probably not. If it was all our budget could afford...heck yeah:)
Was just looking at our POP photos today....the time spent with my DD there I will never forget...so that is my experience....a wonderful one:)

scanne , if you are a deluxe snob, so I guess I am too:) just kidding...we all need to lighten up sometimes and realize how fortunate we are to vacation at Disney, whether value, mod , deluxe or DVC:)

We have stayed in POP twice and I liked it because I don't want to pay big $$$ to sleep. We are never in the room, except to sleep and eat breakfast. I wonder if maybe that is the difference, the more expensive the resort, the more time you spend there? Just a thought...

We really like POP but have only gone during low season, we'll have to see what Labor Day Weekend brings us. Actually for the most part we preferred it over our CSR stay two years ago. That being said, Poly is the one resort I really want to stay at. I keep checking prices but until I win the lottery or my prince charming arrives with a big fat wallet :lmao: , it'll be POP for us!

As I was reading this I was wondering something...we have never stayed at a Value but my DD really wants to stay at POP because of theming and to try it out. Why is it so "noisy" compared to others?? Kids can't be more unruly at the POP than at a Deluxe. Is it the walls? The setup? Most of your deluxes are interior corridors and I never find them noisy??? Just curious. :confused3

I don't think people who don't care for Pop are being "deluxe snobs", we're just giving our honest opinion (and that's all it is) about our experiences there. I like trying out the different resorts, and my kids love the theming at Pop. It's a fun atmosphere, and I do like having the food court. But the bottom line for me is it's too noisy at night. I don't know why it is more so than other places we've stayed, but that's been our experience. And we've never stayed in a preferred room that's close to the pool. We could clearly hear the family in the next room talking, and the toilets flushing all night. There were a lot of kids running up and down late at night. But we have family who stay there regularly and they love it. It's just individual preference, that's all.

During one stay at Pop, our "neighbor" had a child who must've gotten a real thrill out of opening and closing the door. When you're in your own room you don't notice the noise as much as when someone in the room next to you shuts the door. The child wasn't slamming the door but the mere shutting made a HUGE noise in my room. It was so distressing that one night we counted how many times he/she either went in and out of the room or just was playing with the door. That's the kind of noise you hear. The walls are also thin so sometimes you'll hear conversation ( or shrieking), the turbo toilets, and people talking outside your door. In the resorts with hallway carpetting and thicker doors/better insulation you would have a much quieter experience even with the same activity going on around you.---Kathy

Thanks Scanne for your review! Glad you had another great stay at the Polynesian! We were at Disney same time as you - we were there July 2-14, but stayed at Pop the whole time!

Sorry you had noise issues at Pop. Our room was the first room next to the Big Wheel, and we never heard our neighbors! It was really nice. I did hear the turbo toilets a few times, but not enough to wake me up. In fact, one morning we slept til about 8:30 or so and never heard anyone going by the room!

We like trying all the different hotels - we tried quite a few, and still have some more to try! For us, its all about what "theme" we want on vacation, and of course, our budget. We've stayed at the Polynesian twice now, and we do love it!!!!! We're trying Animal Kingdom Lodge in November for the first time! Can't wait!

Again, welcome back Scanne! I still find myself saying "Last week, we were at Magic Kingdom, having lunch at....." or "Last week, we were at Epcot eating at San Angel...."! We can't wait to go back!!

Just to add also, we've stayed at POFQ a couple of times and love it. That's my first choice of resort when we're not at DVC. It's much quieter, the atmosphere is lovely, there's a nice food court and fun pool. It's also more compact so there's not as much walking to get to everything.

We've stayed twice (same room ) at POP and it was never noisy. We were on top floor, not facing the pool and it was very peaceful.

Thanks for that great review of the Polynesian. My family and I are staying there this December for the 1st time, so it's nice to read when people have a fantastic time when staying there.

I stayed at POP for the first time in June w/ friends & we recently returned from Disney again for a 2nd time and we LOVED Pop both times. I guess it depends on the people & what you're looking for? We're college students so we actually enjoyed the the fact that it was crowded but I don't see it as so crowded you can't enjoy it, everytime you go into the food court, you're still always gonna find a seat & the rooms are NOT as small as some are making it out to be, granted they may not be the size of some upscale hotels, they're your average size. Before I went, I was expecting the worse after hearing all the negative reviews but we actually didn't find anything we hated about it. Plus even though there were kids running around (I didn't even see them as disturbing anyone at all) I found my age range--> early 20s college students to be the biggest issue, some just being a little too rowdy, especially at the bar. I understand that some have different preferences but we had such a blast at POP, we met so many interesting people and I thought the hotel was professional & clean. (I was overwhelmed at HOW BIG it actually is though & I did get lost going back at night) But I wouldn't worry about the negative reviews, my's my fav :thumbsup2

I did not get to read all the pages so I apologize if this has already been asked, did you get to eat at Kona or ohanas? thanks.

My dh is a blue collar worker and has worked at the same job going on 22 years now,the pay sucks, I am a SAHM to a disabled 24 yr old dd, whenever we go to WDW we feel so lucky just to stay on property and the noise is always there at a value but we bring our fan to try and block it out, we have yet to have a bad stay, we love them all. That being said this April we went to WDW and my inlaws wanted to meet us one night at Ohanas to eat and they decided to stay one night at the poly, we met them to eat and that was really the first time I ever looked around the resort, wow it was nice, that evening my inlaws said why don't I and dh take the room and they will stay with my dd, so my MIL called the front desk and they said just add us on as an extra adult charge and that would be fine ( well me and dh paid the extra charge ) anyways we stayed the night and man the differents I can't begin to write, I felt like what the crap have we been staying in all these years..lol..we loved it beyond words ! Now I know I'll never be able to afford the poly, but if I could , I would tell the values goodby so fast. Let's face it who wouldn't want to upgrade ? I'm a value snob because I more or less have to be, life goes on and we will be happy ,but don't think there isn't a deluxe snob hiding out somewhere deep inside me :woohoo:
