Hi
we're going back to disney world in jan and we stayed at AKL last jan and had LOTS of choices for our vegetarian family at the resort fine dining restaurant (name slips my memory!)

But I am now a RAW vegan and my kids are still veg, and we want to stay at a MODERATE resort...can you recommend which ones might have the best fruit and salad bars? DO any of the moderates have fine dining, or are they all pizza-subs-sandwich type joints?

Any recs on restaurants that are heavy on veggies and fresh salads? THANK YOu!

All of the moderates have a sit down restaurant (with the exception of Port Orleans French Quarter, which I believe shares the restaurant with Port Orleans Riverside). Menus are here:

Unfortunately outside of that, I'm not a huge fruit/veggie person, so not the best person to answer that. ;)

ETA:

You might want to check the vegetarian page at Mousesavers:

Particularly:

--Parks Counter Service
--Parks Table Service

Good luck!

I am a Raw Vegan also. I had a hard time finding a lot of raw foods, so I ate as much Raw as I could and cooked Vegan meals. Over at Epcot in the Land food court they have a very good vegetarian platter, well its actually vegan, I really like the choices.

well, I don't know if you are flying or driving or what.. but maybe you could prepare some raw dehydrated things to bring with you? Like make some dehydrated granola or cookies or even nut patties? then you could bring them in zip lock baggies and snack on them when you can't find anything else?

I dabble in raw food so I can only imagine how tough it would be in WDW to eat that way. Maybe you could even order a lot of fruit and veggies to be delivered to your room and carry some with you in the parks? I would definitely check out the menus like someone else mentioned... I'm sure you can find at least a few places with fruit for breakfast and good salads that you could possibly ask to be "deconstructed" a bit (please put the dressing on the side, no cheese, etc etc).

what about bringing your own mini blender with you and going back to your room for meals? You could make fruit smoothies that way... and maybe see if you can get a room with a fridge in it?

and.. my last suggestion.. which is actually probably not an option unless you are really wealthy.. is you could order raw food to be delivered to your hotel room. There are a few programs that do it..one of which I know of that is on the website "rawvolution". http://www.rawvolution.com/ He prepares a weeks worth of raw food and it is all shipped in one box (they call it "the box") .. it's pretty pricey though and I think each week is a different menu. You would definitely need a fridge in your room then and I'm not even sure if those small refridgerators in the rooms could hold a weeks worth of raw food... just a suggestion.

doing vegetarian would probably be a bit easier I imagine.

good luck and I'd love to hear how you did when you get back from your trip! It's very interesting!! Have a great time! :thumbsup2

The Wave at the Contemporary would be a fine choice.
Plus there is always Dole Whip !

Vegetarian should be no problem for your kids, and even vegan should be no problem at most places, but raw...possibly The Wave at the Contemporary...I'm drawing a blank at any other potential possibilities.

That being said, if you are going to be eating at table service restaurants, once you've made your dining reservations, you can ask for the phone number to speak to the chef at those particular restaurants and see if you can make arrangements for something to be specially prepared for you. I'm not sure how familiar the chefs would be with raw veganism, but if you have specific suggestions, they are usually more than happy to at least try to accommodate special dietary requests. I think speaking to the chef specifically at each restaurant would be your best shot anyway. Basically follow the instructions on this page: http://www.allearsnet.com/din/special.htm

Your best bet may be to order some stuff and have it delivered to your hotel The Garden Grocer has a nice selection of organic fruits and veggies, maybe even raw nuts and seaweed too- but not sure. The you could make up container/baggies of things you can/would like to eat and bring it with you to the parks in your backpack to supplement the choices you'll have available at the CS/TS restaurants your pick when looking at the sample menus linked above. You will be able to find lots of vegetarian safe choice, but a raw diet may be harder to satisfy. Good luck and have fun!!!

BTW that RAWVOLUTION link looks pretty cool and may be the best option for you if you can get a fridge in your room. I don't think $100.00 sounds too bad for the quality and quantity of food you are getting from them- heck a breakfast for 3 at CRT costs more than that and is way less nutritious and way less food (sounds like this place delivers 4 complete meals, sides, desserts, etc.). I would try it :)

Pardon my ignorance but what's a raw vegan? Does that mean everything you eat is uncooked?

I would suggest checking out the Coronado Springs Resort, I believe its food court area The Pepper Market is run independently form Disney, it is more upscale than other resort food courts and may have more options you are looking for. Check out the CSR FAQ-thread: http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1734215
I'm not really sure just thought I'd mention it...

Vegan means no animal products, including milk, cheese, eggs, butter, etc...
Raw Vegan is no animal products AND all raw. I can do it for a while, but I can't seem to stick to it long term.

I do have a dehydrator though and make a lot of things from Alyssa Cohan's book to zip lock and snack on. YOu can also take raw nuts and raisins to snack on.

I would never get the dining plan while trying to do raw vegan. I just thing the options would be too limited.

We never do the dining plan though, we always get a 2 bedroom condo off-site so that we have full access to our own kitchen.

Could not imagine, good luck to you..

Could not imagine, good luck to you..

it sounds impossible but it isn't.. I myself have only gone 100% raw for about three weeks before I ate other food..

most people I know (in real life or "raw food gurus") are not 100% raw all the time. most of them eat raw as much as possible and maybe throw in a little cooked rice or steamed vegetables.

when I did raw for three weeks I felt great and it's amazing how your taste buds change and you really don't crave anything. You start to realize just HOW sweet, salty, greasy, etc so many foods that we eat on a daily basis are..

it's a totally healthy way to eat.. I can tell you that the reason I keep "falling off" the raw wagon is more emotional... wanting comfort foods etc.

if anyone wants to know more I'd be happy to talk about it! lol.. can you tell? LOL

::shutting up now:: ;)

i think getting food from garden grocer is a terrific suggestion. one i will pass along to the strict vegetarians in my party!! thanks.

Wow, I'm sure none of us have ever heard that one before! Not to mention how productive to this conversation it was.
:rolleyes1

If God did not want us to eat animals then he would not have made them so tasty.
I don't think the point of this thread is to start an arguement over meat eating or vegetarianism. Obviously everyone is entitled to eat what they want.

I have recently started to live my life as a vegetarian and I really like it so far. I am wondering if I could ever do the vegan thing but the raw food diet sound fascinating to me... Wonder if I could handle it?:confused3 :confused3

Being an open forum, anyone can post on any thread. If someone posts something not to your liking, please ignore. Snarky posts going either way are not appreciated :)

Thanks and I am glad you are finding some great information here. When you get back, please let us know how you did with your Raw diet. Have fun!!:cool1:
