I just started going tanning for our upcomming cruise, I didn't want to go away & burn for the first time out in the sun so I was working on my base.... well I went to a Yankee game on saturday & I didn't even THINK about wearing sunblock & now I am BURNT to a crisp. My face is SO red I look like someone who went to Blizzard beach & only put sunblock on once in the morning & spent the entire day floating down the river.... AAAHHH I AM A LOBSTER!!!!! I can't believe how burnt I am. I guess I'll have my base after all, & for free... how ever painful it may be. I just hope this color fades in time to get a little tan before I go! Oh boy...if it wasn't so embarassing I'd take a picture of myself & let you all see... :( Did I mention that I almost never burn & I am 100% italian so I tan nicely... apparently a winter in NY leads to a roasting in the summer!

Get yourself some aloe vera sunburn gel and slather up sweetie. It does help take the sting out of the sunburn. That was one heck of a way to get that "base" tan. Sounds more like a "basted" tan!! LOL Hope you are feeling better real soon!!

By the way ... did the Yankees win? My DH loves the Yankees!!!

Yuck! I feel for you!! I got burned the first time in the tanning salon and I WOULD SO MUCH rather give birth than be burned! I am the biggest pansie!! Drink TONS of water to hydrate yourself, get some aloe vera gel to slather on every hour and take A LOT Of tylenol! It will help!! I'm sorry you got burned but you know better now than on the cruise which is why I bake in a tanning bed rather than on the ship! Also when the burn fades make sure you keep your burned area's nice and supple or you will peel!

Off to bed and dreaming about 3 days from now!
Heidi

Take a vinigar (sp?) bath or a tea bath (tea bags). Both tend to take the sting out.

A boyfriend in highschool told me once to take the hottest shower you can stand, it takes the sting out of the burn. I thought he was crazy until I tried it now I swear by my hot shower....

Noxema cools it right down....

Take it from an irish girl who spent the week with SPF 50 rubbed all over! I have had my share of burns!

EmmasGrammy, the Red Sox won....!!

If you get the aloe vera gel, be sure to get the kind with lidocaine! It is a lifesaver! I am very fair and easily burn to a crisp. The lidocaine takes away the pain, and the aloe vera really helps to minimize the peeling. I got a burn on CC a couple weeks ago, applied the gel right afterwards, and didn't peel at all.

I feel for you. I tan to keep a base year round. We travel a lot and it does help me, I don't burn. Well, before our March 20th cruise this year I was so busy getting ready for our cruise that two days before we left I did my usual tan session of 20 min. The problem was I forgot to use my SPF face cream!(I always use it) and I fell asleep instead of staying awake to turn the facial off after 10 min. Well, I was fried. My husband teased me. "My wife who never burns is fried before she even steps onto the airplane!" He was right. Thankfully my makeup was a great cover up but I was peeling on the first 3 days of our trip!!! Did I feel stupid. You will heal, aloe vera, use lots of it. Kathy

OUCH!!!! I am very fair and burn very easily. I have been going to a tanning bed for almost a week to prepare for my 5/22 cruise. I even get burnt in a tanning bed. I am getting a tan but I am still getting red too. At least it doesn't hurt as bad as yours does but I have had my share of bad sunburns and they are quite painful. I like to use Noxema on mine. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Let me second the Noxema. Smells to high heaven but sure does take the burn out. I found out the hard way after a day at the lake when I was a teenager...way before sunscreen.

Sorry about the burn and hope you get better soon.

I'm out in the sun so much I always use SPF 45, and still tan. I sure don't miss sunburns since I just gave in to using the SPF 45.

Get some John Abate UV Repair and coat yourself a few times a day. This will ease the sunburn pain/peeling, and help you to salvage a bit of a base tan. Once the burn is done..I would still hit the tanning booth if you have time...if your burnt at the game..your skin will burn at CC.

OUCH, that sounds terrible I am sorry you got so burned. I hope you will be tan and don't burn on your cruise, but

GOOOOO SOX!!!!!!!!:bounce:

I do feel your pain. On our first Disney Cruise, we were on the Champagne Catamaran going out to St. John. Well, it was DECEMBER and earlier in the morning. I wasn't really thinking because I forgot to put sunscreen on my legs. Very bad idea. My legs were SO badly burned :( that I couldn't wear anything that either bared my legs or was too rough on my skin for the remainder of the trip. The air conditioning was painful, as were scratchy fabrics. I made good use of my linen pants I brought with me -- they were big and flowy and didn't rub too hard.

That is very painful, though. Hopefully your burns subside by your cruise.

yes yes yes ::yes:: --> chamomile tea will help as will a milk bath

Princess49-
Saturday was crazy- we were outside alot and it was sunny and cool but we (like you) disn't even think about sunscreen- it just didn't seem like a threat and all of my kids (including my 15 month old :( ) got WAY burned. We were in and out all day and just didn't think about it.
I feel like a terrible parent when I look at my red baby. I even made DH stay home from church with the baby because I didn't want to be judged. (The 2 big kids didn't look as bad so they went to church with me)

Princess,

Your problem is you went to a Yankee game. Next time, try a Mets game. In order to become a Met fan, you need to develop a really thick skin, and the sun won't bather you at all. ::yes::

Seriously - I'm Long Island also, and I know the feeling of the first sunburn of the yesr. It hurts, but in a way it's a nice reminder that summer is almost here!:fish:

Don't worry about the burn, the most important thing is "Did the Yankees win?" LOL Hope the pain goes away quickly. Makes me remember when I layed out au naturel the first time many many years ago in Europe. Had problems sitting down for a couple of days. - Mike

I hope you feel better soon. I think real aspirin is better for a burn than Tylonal. Definitly use the Aloe gel. Get the clear one if you can find it, as the green or blue can stain. :D
