I agree with Pete, take down the xmas decor sooner!!

I couldn't agree more with Pete. I love Christmas, Christmas decorations and lights, and I love WDW. But enough already! When January 1st rolls around, I am thinking about the new year and all that lies in store, and if I'm traveling to Florida in January, I want to leave all thoughts of Christmas behind!! I'm traveling usually from harsh winter weather, and I really don't want the symbolic holiday of winter to be in my photos of my warm weather reprieve. Disney - take it down on by Jan 2nd. Please.

Anyone else agree?

I have to disagree with this one. I have never gone during Christmas time but the last two times have gone for marathon weekend and they have had the decor up. Being someone who has never seen it before it was awesome getting to experience it. Running through Cinderella castle alone is an experience but then getting to do it with the lights on it is even better.

The Epiphany is actually the real date it should start coming down on. The 12 days of Christmas are those after Christmas day and I believe is the time it took the wise men to make it to the manger. Most places that have big celebrations leave their decorations up until at least that date.

I fully agree with the OP. There is really no need to still have Christmas decorations up in January, as soon as January 1 hits the focus should be to remove all the decorations and switch gears to giving the parks some fresh TLC for the new year (cleaning, painting, landscaping, etc.)..

Sorry, I disagree with it this year. Sure as a local your ready for it to move on but osbourne lights last year, keep them up the extra week for those that aren't locals and that was the only time they found to get down to see them.

That's exactly what happened for me. I had never seen the lights ever. We got lucky that they extended the lights until the 6th and we got to see them on the last night they were ever shown!

Not saying they should keep them up until St. Patrick's Day or anything, but I think until about Jan 10th is ok

They started taking them down the week following the 10th. The 10th was marathon Sunday. It being marathon weekend is one of the bigger reasons I think they left them up until then.

I agree with you, though I also believe they should stay up through January 6th for Epiphany.

I'm fine with all the Christmas stuff up a little longer. I don't take stuff in my home down as soon as January hits, so I don't mind that Disney keeps it up a bit longer either.

After hearing countless renditions of "The 12 Days of Christmas" leading up to December 25, I don't think it is unreasonable for Christmas decorations to actually be on display throughout those self, same 12 Days of Christmas. Besides--there are many, many people who would love to come to WDW in December but cannot do so due to school calendar issues or familial obligations but who can get to WDW between 1/2 and 1/10. I say, let those people see the magic of a Disney Christmas, even if the actual day has passed by. Finally, I see absolutely no logic in the argument that it is OK to have a MNSSHP on September 6, (55 days before Halloween), or a MVMCP on November 2, (53 days before Christmas), but we cannot see Christmas lights and decor 10 days after Christmas. That makes no sense whatsoever. When Disney starts to put up its decorations on December 15, then I will grant you that it should take them down on January 4. But as long as "Christmas" starts in the first week of November, it can certainly extend into the first (or even second) week of January. Are you in such a rush to see them put up MLK/President's Day/Valentine's Day/St. Patrick's Day decorations?

Something else worth mentioning is that typically all the Christmas shows (Holiday editions of Wishes/Illuminations, Candlelight Processional, etc.) and entertainment end by December 31.. So even if the decorations are still up in January anyone visiting during that time will not get the full experience of a WDW Christmas, if I recall correctly sometimes they have even gone as far as turning off the ambient Christmas music throughout the parks..

I can see both sides to this. But in the grand scheme of things, having the Christmas décor up for a while isn't really hurting anything and gives people who may not be able to go during December the opportunity to enjoy them as well. What I think is worse is the Halloween décor going up in early September. I don't even think about Halloween until at least early October!

I don't like extended holiday decorations in either direction, before or after the holiday. It is a bit crazy that 20% of the year, there are Christmas decorations up there. And another 20% Halloween. It's WAY overdone IMHO, but I guess I'm in the minority.

While I understand your POV, I appreciate that Disney has an extended season for these events. If they didn't, we would never have seen the holiday decorations in WDW or DLR. Haunted Mansion Holiday and it's a small world Christmas at DLR this past November were, by far, the highlight of our trip. We were there for my birthday and a runDisney event for DH. Seeing the Christmas decorations (and overlays) was such an awesome addition to the trip.
