Any tips on I-95 travel.
Construction?
Bad hotes/good hotels?
Good eats, safe rest stops etc.
(traveling from PA)
Thanks!

We've driven from MD 4 times in the last 2 years using I 95. We usually took 2 nights to stop over as we weren't in any hurry. The time we took one night to stop over it was in Santee, SC and we stayed at a Hampton Inn. It was very nice, new, and had a great free breakfast buffet. The buffet was the best we had ever had for a freebie offered at any hotel! There was a small outdoor pool and work out room. We have never run into any nasty reststops on 95 to WDW. I traveled with my mom, in her 60s, my DD, 4, and myself and we always felt safe at the reststops. We stay on 301 coming from MD until we pass DC. Once we pass DC we get onto 95. You want to avoid 95 around DC at all times and all costs! It is always rush hour and always a mess. We only took the bypass around Jacksonville once and it was a waste of time. It would depend on when you are in Jacksonville and whether it is rush hour. We found we were always in the area around 2pm and didn't need to avoid it so we drive right through staying on 95. Because it is just us girls we make good use of the Cracker Barrels along the route. Where else can we eat and get a shopping fix all at once! LOL! Good food and a great diversion. I suggest you take a look at the I95 travel info website for further info on construction, hotel reviews, and good places to stop, rest, and eat. It has a lot of useful info in it. We also purchased their book as it lists all the rest stop on 95 along with hotels and food places. It made it much easier to decide whether to eat at one stop or wait for something better as we could see what was coming up. That site is USAStar.com/i95/homepage.htm. Hope that helps!

There is some contruction going on in GA between exits 76-58. There is also construction from about 36-2.
Exit 36A-B are good exits to stop at. They have alot of hotels and alot of places to eat. There is also a casino boat that is right off this exit.

Thanks for the link. We are not on 95 as long as others around here.. pick it up in lower SC. But I do hate constuction delays. We have enough of those every day on I 85.

Don't know where in Pa. you live, but we live just S. of York. WE always leave at 4:00 AM to avoid DC rush hour, We take the 295 bypass around Richmond and also around Jacksonville. We stop in Brunswick Ga. on the way down (Hampton Inn) and in Emporia va. on the way back (Best Western).
There will probably always be construction on I-95--never taken it and found it construction-free.
This past trip (Sept.) there was construction in S. Ga. and thru most of Florida (and also around Lumberton NC). But NO delays--no one seemed to be working!!
Any ? you can PM or EM me..

hey MOMOF3DISNEYHOLICS: (and any other DIS from the arera)

DW and I are driving down from mass. on 11/26 and were thinking of stopping in savanah for the night...and hotel/inn suggestions?

thanks

Take exit 36A, then there are about 10 hotels you can choose from. The Hampton Inn is nice, and the Ramada is very nice. I work right off this exit so I know alot about it. If you like casinos, the casino boat is just 5 miles from the exit. It is called the Emerald Princess. I work at an answering service and we take care of their reservation line. It is only 10.00 per person and they serve you a nice dinner. There is either a live band or dj on board, and a full casino. They also do bingo. All of this is included for the 10.00! Even if you don't gamble it is still nice because they go out 3 miles in the ocean and it is very pretty at night. I strongly recommend calling for res. I think the 26th is a Wed? The hours for it are 7pm-12am on that day. The website is www.emeraldprincesscasino.com
There is also a Cracker Barrell, a local bbq place, and a local seafood place at this exit and St Simons island, Jekyll Island, and Sea Island are just a few mins off this exit as well. This is a very nice place.
Hope this helps!

i have another question...any KRISPY KREMES near by?

thanks again

We just got home Saturday, driving from PA and stopped in Savannah, GA on the way down - We stayed at Country Inns & Suites and it was very nice. We saw where there was construction on 95 but like others have said we didn't have any delays or see anyone actually working.

excellant, thanks piglet......after you left savanah how long to reach "the world"?

thanks again
hope you had a good trip

We just returned from a trip along I95 in the Carolinas. There was a delay southbound on I95 north of Lumberton, NC. There were a few other short delays on I95 in the Fayetteville, NC area.

We have stayed at several Hampton Inns along I95. Except for one in Florence, SC at US 52, the others were clean, have friendly staffs, a continental breakfast in the morning, etc. We have also stayed at Clark's in Santee, SC - also clean with friendly staffs. Also in Santee is Maurice's BBQ - if you like bbq, then this is a must :)!

The Parkers gas station on exit 76 sells Krispy Kreme doughnuts. That is the only one I can think of in the area.
