We're considering leaving Charlotte one evening and driving to I-95, just south of I-26 in SC for a one night stay before we continue down to WDW.

The problem is that we are three adults and two kids (6 & 5), and most places I look up will just say "2 queen beds." But aside from a few suites that would cost $100 or more, I can't find anything that says they'd even have enough beds for us. Before I start calling these places one after another, after another, does anyone know of a good solution for us?

We're probably looking at Walterboro, SC or a nearby town...

If you can drive a little farther to Savannah you'll have many more hotel choices. The drive time from Clt is about 3.5 hrs and puts you in better position for WDW the next day (drive time 4+ hrs).

I know... just driving to I-95 was already going to be a bit of a stretch (we wouldn't be able to leave Charlotte until 7:30pm). We just wanted to get further than Columbia, but Savannah seemed too far.

We might just have to skip leaving at night and just leave in the morning like originally planned... don't want to though - it's a long drive for us in one day, and I'm sick of getting to Orlando when we're looking for dinner but can't move in all the rush hour traffic on I-4! :headache:

Tough choices. We've left early (6 or 7 am), driven straight through, and happily sat by the pool by 2 pm. Other times we spend the night in Hilton Head; it's nice to break up the drive a bit. No matter what you decide, good luck!!!! :)

In the past, we've also left at 6-7am... I guess we just have to stop too many times. Kids need pit stops, driver needs caffeine, those of us with leg and back issues need to walk around, etc... Always end up getting to Orlando around 4-ish, and then sit in traffic for an hour at least to pass just a few exits... it's frustrating!

Look for that thread about avoiding I-4 and avoiding its traffic; might be helpful.

Last time we were staying at the Marriott by the airport (MCO) for one night. We were routed on the alternate toll road starting in Sanford (I think). The drive was so much more pleasant--and avoided all that I-4 madness as you near WDW--that we decided we'd take that route any time we'd be there during a busy traffic time. Good luck!!!

I found out that the Microtel in Walterboro will give us a rollaway for $10... I got 20% off the best available rate for booking two weeks inadvance, plus I found a code online for getting an additional 10% through Hotels.com. So that puts us at just below $50 for the night, not counting the rollaway. Much better than a $100 suite.

I hope Microtel is nice - I read some good reviews but I've never stayed at one before.

But for future reference, I would like to know about how to avoid I-4 on the way down from I-95... I could only find one thread that mentioned avoiding I-4 from the south. That wouldn't help us.
