Just to put out some recent info on the photo-radar ticketing here:

The usual set up spot is located near MM 21, under the bridge. I have seen it there last October, twice, targeting Southbound traffic both times. This trip:

Southbound:
Drove to FL on Sat 4/17. Went through the Ridgeland area at 6:30 a.m. No van, no equipment set up, on either side of the road. No presence at all. Not sure how well a camera setup would work, without flash, in a low light or dark situation. That may be the reason why no equipment or van was there. :confused3

Northbound:
Drove back to NC on Friday 4/23. Went through the area at 4:00 p.m. There was a sign up, back @ MM 16, that said something to the effect of 'photo-radar assisted targeted enforcement area'. Something like that, as a warning. At MM 21, under the bridge, set up for Northbound traffic, was the equipment (2 tripods) and a van or box truck. As traffic was slowed due to high volume, there was no way they could have issued any speeding tickets. We crawled through the area at 30-35 mph.

So, the enforcement is still ongoing. IMHO - I don't know how this could work at night, without any flash (which would be a huge distraction for any other drivers), since they need to capture the license plate and the driver description, when issuing the ticket.

Anyway, that's my latest update on the Ridgeland, SC traffic area. Hope that helps.

Thanks it helps Ihave it written down on my trip tick to watch this area

They have the same set up in Balt Md. and yes they use a flash @ night, I see it all the time the flash goes off twice, once for the license palte and once I believe for the side image of the vehicle and driver. By the time you see the flash it's all over they already got you and it is behind you then, all though the folks behind you now have been warned. I have seen it look like a stobe light with them getting a few cars in a row.
They also have a spot both north & south in a construction zone around mile marker 29 & 30 so watch out there also.

I drove past mile 21 today. There were cameras on both sides of the highway at the bridge. There was also some guy in a camper/truck type of thing parked next to the north bound camera.

I have a radar detector and I expected it to sound an alert at the cameras but it didn't pick up anything. Maybe they were turned off?

I drove back up 95 on Sunday 5/15. They were set up on the south bound lane of 95. A guy in a white pickup with a camper top and a couple of cameras under the bridge.
