I'm looking for recommendations for $50-100 hotels in SC and GA that are near I-95. This will be our first time driving to WDW. I've researched hotels on-line (AAA, trip advisor, hotel site) and have a top two for each city, but would love advice from my fellow Disney lovers.

GEORGIA
Pooler/Port Wentworth
Richmond Hill
Darien

SOUTH CAROLINA
Walterboro
St. George
Santee

We'd prefer Queen Beds, Free Breakfast, Pool, Fridge and Microwave but not required.

Also, if you have a "do not recommend" hotel, I'd love to know that too.

Thanks!:goodvibes

We stayed at a Fairfield Inn in at Savannah airport exit which I believe would put you in the Pooler/Port Wentworth area. The hotel was clean and had a free continental breakfast. Cant remember about the beds because this was back in 2001. It was convienient to I95 and in a pretty good area. If you would go a little farther we stayed at a Country Inn which I believe was in Kingsland Ga just off I95 which was real clean and convienient too. Hope this helps!

Thanks. I will check them out. I can read all information about the hotel but there's nothing like getting someone's advice who had stayed there before.

A little farther South from Darien and you get to Brunswick, Exit 38 has several new hotels (Hampton Inn, New Holiday Inn and a couple others)...32 more miles puts you in my neck of the woods, Kingsland/Saint Mary's, GA, and right on the FL line (literally)...

Exit 3 has a new Hampton Inn and a new La Quinta Inn....

We booked the Comfort Suites in Brunswick Ga. Got good reviews from tripadvisor. The price was 79. per night (with a govt. discount). The room is a 2 queen suite w/ a breakfast. Choice hotel brands are offering a deal if you stay two seperate nights you get 1 night free 9you have to book through them or online).

Hubby and I are making the drive down from MA at the end of April. This thread is super helpful. Thanks everyone!

Thanks for the info. The HIs (Hampton and Holiday) seem to be more expensive (over $100) but the new LQ sounds good. I will check it out.

Oh, having a night free would definitely be an incentive to book both rooms with Comfort. Thanks. I will look into this.

I'm being such a super-planner with this...probably going overboard but ...

I first went to AAA, then the hotel sites, then Trip Advisor for reviews and now DIS for reviews. I'm planning to pick 3 hotels that allow you to cancel same day and then we'll see how far we get and cancel as appropriate.

Some of the best hotels on paper got the worst reviews from Trip Advisor, so it's made me rethink my choices...

Hampton Inn - hands down! They are clean, consistent, a really good stay. Google them - many located off I95. We stay Hampton Inn every time we drive down.

Good luck, enjoy.

I drive from S. FL to the Boston area (and home) every summer. If you could find a Hampton close to your price range go for it. After a hotel I didn't feel safe in, a "non smoking" room that smelled reeked of cigarette smoke and left me with a blinding sinus headache and a room with a shower too gross to use, we always stay Hampton. It's a little more than some of hotels but I make up the difference by packing all our food (and using the fridge in the room overnight).

You're preaching to the choir. In my book there is no such thing as over planning. :thumbsup2

The Hampton Inn may be a little more expensive, but the LA Q is brand new (within the past 1.5 years)...if you get a name and want me to check it out in the Brunswick, Kingsland area let me know---(I work in Brunswick)...

Matter of fact, I might need to do an area recon just to help you guys out...gimme a couple of days...

Thanks. I do like Hampton Inns but they are running over $100 and we didn't budget that (we're spending it in WDW instead).

Another Hampton Inn vote.:thumbsup2 Maybe once I have those bad experiences I'll feel the same way. We haven't driven I-95 but I've stayed at other "cheap" hotels and haven't had a problem (Best Western, La Quinta, Super8, Days Inn, etc). I'm hoping the I-95 ones are at least "good for one night".

Hey, I like you!!:goodvibes

Another I-95 tip- Don't eat at the South of the Border diner! Grass from the road side would be a better choice.

I had a friend who stayed there once, she said they slept on top of the sheets but the bed did vibrate if you had quarters.

I'm still wondering how they keep the lights on at that place....

Too funny! (the quarters) I didn't think they still had those beds.

You know, as a kid, I loved the signs for SotB and I always wanted to stop there ... my parents never did...guess I didn't miss anything then!:rotfl2:

We second the Fairfield Inn in Savannah off I 95, very nice place. We have stayed there about 4 times. A lot of place to eat that are very close too.:thumbsup2

We stayed at the Marriott in Brunswick GA a couple of summers ago, at the time it was brand new. Offered a free hot small buffet type breakfast (scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, waffles, etc.) There is a bowling alley next door to help you relax!!!!

Keep watching the individual hotel websites, I stayed at the Marriots on the way down for the specials (free hot breakfast) and double reward points. Become a member of their rewards programs.

We too are stopping halfway on our trip down and back to Disney World. Since some of you live near this area I though I would get your thoughts on the hotels we have selected. On the way down, we have reserved Country Inn and Suites in Kingsland, Ga; and on the way back home we have reserved Holiday Inn (138 GLYNCO PARKWAY, BRUNSWICK, GA). They said that this hotel was remodeled in the last 6 months. Please give me your thoughts and advice as to whether these hotels were a good choice. Thanks so much!

No problem with either...Country Inn and Suites is right behind Applebee's and Chik fil A in Kingsland, and right near the interstated...

Holiday Inn: Remodeled??? Heck, they just built the thing a couple of years ago.....it's also nice, with a decent steak house attached
