My DH is driving to FL from CT via the fastest route. He thinks if he leaves Hartofrd, Ct at 5pm he will avoid heavy traffic in NY, NJ and DC by traveling though the night. What do you folks think. Is this a good time to leave if traveling I-95 straight down? TIA

You will probably be OK.

I normally leave from Carver, MA between 4 to 6pm. That gets me to the GW Bridge around 9pm. Unless it's a New England vacation week, keeping that schedule avoids all of the traffic problems on I95.

Sometimes the Cross Bronx and the GW bridge is bad then, but you are still thru in less than an hour. After that I have only had isolated issues going down. Check with the State's DOT to see if there is any construction going on (or AAA), Night paving will mess you up if it is going on.

The only issue that you may have is in Jacksonville, If you arrive between 3 and 6pm, you will be in rush hour. I295 around Jax may be a better bet then.

Just don't push it if you of DH get tired, stop if necessary. I know my limits so I'm ok with the straight thru. DS or DW will take over when needed.
