We are leaving from lexington, ky and driving cause DH refuses to fly

So please tell me if you have made this trip where are some good places to stop and let DDs blow off some energy and any good hotel suggestions would be greatly appreciated as well! We will be leaving the day after Thanksgiving so driving is definitely going to be an adventure!

Thanks! God Bless!

I have left from Michigan on Thanksgiving and found that weekend easy to travel. Hotels in Valdosta, Perry or Tifton Ga. are good choice's. Any fast food with a play place would be good to stop and blow off steam. We have stopped at McDonalds for neice's 5 year olds and let them play for an about 30 minutes after eating. They did not want to stop(LOL). They wanted to hurry to disney. But it was a nice stop for everyone. Susan

We have driven from Georgetown at least 7 times. The day after Thanksgiving should be a breeze, it's the day before Thanksgiving and the morning of Thanksgiving to worry about.

As for places to pull off, I look for signs with a Hampton Inn and Cracker Barrel-neither of those chains locate at questionable exits. We use interstate rest areas when we don't need fuel-beware that there is only 1 between Lexington and the Georgia line, a distance of 280 miles.

The Florida Welcome Center is a must stop for us, as long as you arrive between 8 and 5.

Enjoy the ride.

I don't think that's right anymore. Going south, there are two rest areas in Tennessee; the welcome center as you cross into Tennessee, and a rest area about halfway between Knoxville and Chattanooga (45 mile marker). The welcome center was closed for a while, but it has reopened.

We stopped at both rest areas on our trip last winter. We changed drivers at the welcome center, and we met up with our in-laws at the other rest area.

As for traffic, the only traffic you'll find is around the Fayette Mall (Black Friday sales). But I would still try to get through Atlanta before rush hour (3-6 pm). Black Friday is still a normal workday for some employees; in particular federal employees (I don't know about Georgia state employees).

Thanks, guys. My momma actually lives in lex and we will be spending TG day with her and she will be flying down to MCO on Sunday. She lives right beside exit 108 so we won't be in the fayette mall area - we will be in Hamburg :scared1:

Of course, I am one of those nutty ppl who love Black Friday sales so it does not bother me. My DH, however, would rather have parts of his body lopped off than to have to go shopping. He hates crowds. Also, this is his first trip to WDW (my 5th) and he says he knows what to expect but I really don't think he has a clue!

I don't know what time you are planning on leaving Lexington, but I will tell you that one year we decided that we were not going to leave until later in the morning and we would drive to the other side of Atlanta, get a room, then get up the next morning and drive on to Orlando. We made it through Atlanta and started looking for a room about 6 or 7 o'clock. Let me just say that everyone starts looking for a room around that time. We ended up only a few miles from the Florida state line before we found a room and it was not a good room. So don't wait too long to stop!
