I'm trying to figure out where to stay the first night, we'd like to drive as long as possible without going straight through. We plan on leaving very early morning, hoping the lids stay asleep lol.

Any advice on where to stay would be greatly appreciated.

TIA,

Charity

We have stayed in Acworth Ga...just north of Marietta, and also Marietta. No problems with these areas, easy on/off highway. You may be able to make it as far as Valdosta...which is ok too....but we do not like to push it too much and we leave from just west of Chicago.

We have driven a few times from the Grand Rapids area, and we have found that the Atlanta area is about right for us to stop. We leave around 5am and stop a few times and usually get to Atlanta between 7pm and 9pm. From there it's about another 6 or 7 hours.

To give you an estimate in driving times, Grand Rapids to Dalton, GA is approximately 12 hours. It would be approximately 9 hours from Dalton, GA to Orlando.

We've stayed at the Quality Inn in Dalton (four years ago though), and it was a nice place to stop. Reasonable rates with a continental breakfast.

We'll be leaving from Battle Creek..

I just don't want to have the kids in the car too long the next day so I am trying to find a reasonable stopping point, I;'d rather drive a long time, just one day.

We have stayed in Dalton Ga, Perry and most recently Tifton. The Fairfield Inn in Tifton was nice and had a decent continental breakfast. I would try for Tifton. I believe we were 4 or 5 hours to disney. Susan

We also like to stopin Tifton (great Holiday Inn there). I just looked at my notes--645 miles Cincinnati to Tifton. It took us about 11 hours. We have also stopped in Macon which is about 550 miles from our house. Either of those would seem like quite a haul from Michigan. We have stopped in Dalton (trip home) and Cartersville. Both are north of Atlanta. Good, safe, clean hotel choices at both locations.

We make a rule to drive until we get south of Atlanta. Hate dealing with the traffic in the morning. We can usually sail right through in the evening. Our last trip we stopped in Forsyth due to bad driving conditions, but I like to make it to Macon. We're not as young as we used to be so driving much further is pretty much out of the question for us.

I would try to get South of Atlanta the first day. If you stay North of Atlanta the first night and don't get up at the crack of dawn, you will be spending the first hour of your drive the next morning crawling through Atlanta.
