I 75 construction

We are driving down in mid August and friends just came back and said I 75 has tons of construction. Does anyone know if this will continue all summer? Is there a website where I can check the detours?
We live near London, Ontario and I-75 is the closest route down but I am considering an alternate route if the construction is that horrible.
Any advice will be welcome!

I'm trying to send you the link to the Michigan Department of Transportation website but I keep getting an error. Do a GOOGLE search and it should come up.

According to that website the I-75 construction will not be completed until end of 2009. I'm not sure what the detour route is if your coming from Sarnia/Blue Water Bridge way, but if you go through Windsor/Ambassador Bridge way, its not too difficult....just did it last week....its about a 5 minute detour and your on your way south! No worries whatsoever.

They were doing this construction last year in Detriot with the same detour to getting on I-75 South, so it's very easy to follow. However the construction going back to Canada was not happening at the time. I live in Windsor and cross the border often. The I-75 construction is a bit more of a hassle now than before, but very manageable. Just follow the well-marked detour routes and you'll be fine. It can get a bit congested , depending on the time of day you're passing through, so you might want to factor in a little extra time to get through Detroit. The only alternate route I can think of would be to go through Sarnia and take the I-94 through Detroit to I-275 South to get back to the I-75, but I'm not sure how much longer that would take. Also, beware if you are travelling through on the weekend you will want to get through the border as early as possible because traffic on the bridge gets backed up quickly on the weekends.

where abouts are you crossing? Sarnia or windsor? We emailed Dave Hunter that writes the book Along i-75 and he sent me an email with the directions. here is the email, I hope this isn't against the rules to post but here it is.

Regarding the construction, there is good coverage and coloured maps at the following website to guide you around it . . .

1. From Sarnia/Port Huron, take I-69 West / I-94 West, towards Detroit (approx. 45 miles / 72 kms).

2. I-69 and I-94 split in three miles - continue following I-94 southwards towards Detroit (to confirm you are on the right track after the split, your next exit should be number 269 - Dove St/Range Road).

3. At I-94 exit 229, take the ramp to I-696 West, towards Lansing - also known as the "Walter Reuther Freeway" (approx. 30 miles / 48 km)

4. At I-696 exit 1, take ramp to I-275 South, towards Detroit Metropolitan Airport. You will pass the airport on your left (east) . Continue on towards I-75S (approx. 37 miles / 60 kms).

5. At the south end of I-275 (no exit number), it joins I-75 South, at I-75 mile marker 20.

You will be well below Detroit at this point, heading towards Toledo and joining my I-75 map on page 8.

It looks like going Port Huron over to the airport would be the way to go to totally avoid the construction. Is that right?

That would avoid the construction downtown. I-275 is just a few exits past Metro Airport and taking I-275 south would get you back to I-75 towards Toledo.

We are driving from the North from Port Huron, going to Cleveland, tomorrow Friday Nov. 5, 2009. I see that I-275 is a recommended detour.

Is there a quicker way. We will probably be in Detroit around 9 AM.

When we went to Sandusky, Ohio (Cedar Point) in Sept, we just stayed on I-94 and missed the construction by taking M-10 (which is Southfield Road) turn off which will bring you to I-75. You can also take Telegraph Road too. Has worked out great the many times we have gone to Sandusky. I think it will take you about 15-25 mins more but you miss all the construction and it is basically direct.

Also you might be hitting rush hour in Detroit too at 9 am.

I will enjoy myself, I hope after my check-up at Cleveland Clinic. It doesn't usually bother me, but sometimes a bit of discomfort. I go every two years. I'm pretty healthy having lost over 40 pounds, so that is a plus.

We will meet a couple of friends that live in Strongsville for pizza afterward, so we are staying the night, with our dog, and yes we are looking forward to it, outside the doctor visit.

I believe this detour construction is set to finish this December or Janurary, however this past August after my family and I cleared US Customs at the Ambassador Bridge we immediately went onto a detour on I-94, which took us right to I-75 south. Personally we thought that detour was a lot easier then going through Mexican Town, which is how they previously were doing the detour.

that's us in front of the TV at our motel. I got a great report on my check-up and to come back in two years. That's great and we celebrated having great pizza at Angelo's in Lakewood, OH with two friends of ours living in Cleveland.

Yes, the traffic was a breeze through there, didn't know, but we had to wait on a train before fro 10 minutes and then a 15 minute wait on road construction in Michigan, while they were doing a long stretch of asphalt. But we made it and will enjoy the trip back.

My good news is better than the news I didn't get a new contract job in Port Huron, which was a contract for a stimulus job. Someone else got picked and one of the interviewers my wife knew, from a job that lady got fired at for embezzling money, I think over a couple of thousand or more. I sure hope she isn't getting her hands near the 500,000 the Government is allocating to the group. I think that is why I didn't get the contract, because she remembered me, though she had only seen me a couple of times. I can't believe Port Huron area hired her with this luggage. But evidently the place she was fired from kept this quiet. I am sure glad I didn't get this job, as I was told not to turn my back on her.

Anyway will relax and watch Medium with my wife.

Is it me or is that stretch of highway (I think you guys call it a freeway...LOL!!) from past Toledo to Sandusky boring? I always dread driving it cause everything just looks the same.
